Viola Davis as Professor Keating and Uzo Aduba as Crazy Eyes on two of the biggest television series in America, it is only right that they leave any award show with awards in hand and checks in the bag.

The SAG Awards were full of appreciation last night, as these ladies left with 3 awards total.

Davis won the outstanding lead drama actress prize this past Sunday, for her starring role in the Shonda Rimes hit series, ‘How To Get Away With Murder’. Davis is only the third African American actress to win that title in history.

The award for outstanding comedy actress went to Uzo Aduba, for her role in the Netflix series, ‘Orange Is The New Black’ as the hilarious, Crazy Eyes.

These two women have officially made a strong mark in history as some of the most powerful women among all races, and have proven that they are nothing to be reckoned with. Their poise and graceful stage presence is something that we as African American women should appreciate, being that this is something that we don’t get to experience very often.

These women, along with Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union, Jada Pinkett- Smith, Tasha Smith and Taraji P. Henson are some of the many African American actresses that are not slowly, but rapidly taking the predominantly white areas of Hollywood by storm. Doing things and playing roles that are considered to be critical and astonishing all in the same breath.

I am proud to be a witness to nothing short of greatness and being able to see women of color win these awards is a feeling that I have wanted to feel for such a long time, and the feeling is way overdue.

Congratulations to these two beautiful women, and I am sure that this is not the last that we have heard of them or any of the other names that I proudly chanted as well as many that I may have left out.

You go girls! They are giving a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘black girls rock’!
