CNN Anchor Fredricka Whitfield Mocks Thin Skinned Joan Rivers for Walking Out on Interview
CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield recently discussed her reaction to Joan Rivers’ storming off the set during a recent interview. Whitfield says the interview began as a “lighthearted,” and “compliment-filled” interview but “changed tone” within the first few minutes.
Whitfield also noted that Rivers is actually the one keeping the story going.
“Truth be told it’s now right up there as one of the most talked about interviews ending abruptly with an exit,” Whitfield said Sunday. “It’s now getting lots of laughs from the very comedian who didn’t find any humor in it one week ago.”
Whitfield also pointed out the “hypocrisy of the comedian who dished it but didn’t take it.”
As BreakingBrown previously reported, Whitfield questioned the comedian about her mean spirited comedy.
When questioned about her TV show, where Rivers routinely mocks celebrities, the 81 year old comedian said people who make millions don’t really care what she has to say.
“It’s not mean, it’s not mean, it’s not mean,” she said. “I tell the truth.”
Whitfield then asked Rivers about the “shock value” of her comedy, which caused Rivers to take issue with the tone of the interview.
“This whole interview is becoming a defensive interview,” Rivers said. “Are you wearing leather shoes?” Rivers asked, after getting riled up over Whitfield asking why the comedian wore a fur coat on the cover of her book. When Whitfield answered yes, Rivers told her, “then shut up.”
Then Rivers went off before storming out.
“I made people laugh for 50 years. I am put on earth to make people laugh. My book is funny! I wear fur that was killed 15 years ago. I work for animal rights-stop it with — you do this and you’re mean. And you are not the one to interview a person who does humor! Sorry!”
