Chicago Field Reporter in Sub-Freezing Weather Snaps on Joking Studio Anchors

By  |  3 Comments

Reporting from hurricanes and in sub-freezing temperatures is almost like aTonya Francisco rite of passage for reporters. One Chicago reporter, who was out in the freezing cold, engaged in  good-natured banter with her co-anchors, who were both reporting from the comfort of the studio.

Reporter Tonya Franciso kept her poise and light-hearted attitude while she politely snapped at her WGN co-anchors, both of whom were making fun of her for reporting in the minus 45 degree temperatures.

“It’s not that cold out there,” joked one of the anchors, a comment that was met by Francisco’s eyes bulging out in shock. Francisco glared at the camera, then shot back, “you have got to be kidding!”

Franciso then invites her co-anchors, who are reporting from a warm and cozy environment, to join her outside in the freezing cold.

“I think you need to come on and come on out here with me. It’s no joke, okay. You can only stand out here for a few minutes before your face starts to freeze and it starts to hurt,” says Francisco.

Anchor Robin Baumgarten continued to have a laugh at Francisco’s expense, saying Francisco looked angry, which triggered a reaction from the freezing reporter.

“Do you think? I think I have reason to be angry. Come on out here and join me Robin,” Francisco snapped.

Franciso also observed passersby and noted that one woman was wearing panty hose. According to the reporter, Chicago winters demand long underwear and people need to get it together in order to avoid freezing.

She also lamented how hard it was to get Chicago residents to stop and chat during the frigid cold. According to the reporter, pedestrians were walking with one purpose, which seemed to be getting in out of the cold.

This is ridiculous! She didn’t snap on anyone. They were all obviously having a good fun laugh! They were teasing her but it was good natured. Stop with these misleading headlines. You’re losing me….
