Naturally Triece: What I Learned From The Whitney Houston Biopic

By  |  12 Comments

After watching this particular film just an hour ago I realized one important thing that I think is very important for women as well as the rest of society to understand.

Even though the Lifetime film seemed more dramatic than I felt like it needed to be and it wasn’t really based on the life and legacy of Whitney Houston, more so than her crazy relationship with Bobby Brown, I learned that people will always blame men in any relationship… No matter what the situation may have been.

From doing my own research and reading a lot of the media stories that were written along with interviews between Bobby, Whitney and Whitney’s family member, I just thought that is was very shallow for people to solely blame Bobby Brown for all that Whitney Houston went through.

The main issue that he was blamed for was Whitney’s drug addiction. He has been blamed for her drug addiction for over 20 years and I think that it is really sad that no one has said that Whitney Houston needed to take responsibility for her own actions…

No man can put cocaine to your nose and make you snort it… They can put the cocaine in front of you… If you snort it then that is your OWN issue. Not your spouses.

Among many other things I do think that this movie was quite disappointing because it was only about Whitney and Bobby… I was hoping that the movie would be uplifting, inspiring, attention grabbing (I felt myself falling asleep… Slowly but surely…) and some what heart warming, being that Angela Bassett was the director… It definitely was none of those things that Ms. Bassett said that it would be.

Lifetime has seemed to become one of the worst television networks to show a biopic… In history.

After the Aaliyah movie, I would have thought that they would have learned their lesson. But I guess not.

Let’s just hope that when Beyoncé dies they don’t try to do her Biopic. Fighting with family members and picking characters that look nothing like the characters that they are attempting to play. Just save the money and the time and let someone else take on the job… Just my opinion.

Thanks for reading!
