Halle Berry Feels Pressure to get Plastic Surgery; Wants To Age Gracefully
According to Halle Berry— the 48-year-old actress who has won every major acting award, including a Golden Globe, an Emmy and an Oscar— plastic surgery in Hollywood is pushed like “crack.”
In an interview with Bobbi Brown, editor-in-chief for Yahoo Beauty, the woman who made history in 2002 as the first African-American female to win an Oscar for her leading role in Monster’s Ball said that she would like to age gracefully. She added “We have to stop wanting to look like that decade before. We have to stop coveting that.”
Berry, who got her start in the pageant world as the First Runner Up for Miss USA in 1986 told Brown that she has no interest in having plastic surgery just so that she will remain young looking. She added that even though she is being pushed in Hollywood to do just that, and sometimes she wonders if she needs to do it “to stay alive in this business,” she is adamant about aging gracefully.

“I won’t lie and tell you that those things don’t cross my mind because somebody is always suggesting it to me,” she continued. “You know, if you just did a little bit of this and that, lift this up, then this would be a little bit better. It’s almost like crack that people are trying to push on you.”
When asked by Brown who was her beauty icon and who had influenced her most, Berry replied that it would have to be Dorothy Dandridge. She continued that she grew up idolizing Dandridge and wanting to emulate her because she was a woman of color doing what she wanted and was very successful. “That I thought was just beautiful. I find attractive anybody that does beauty in more of a natural, simple way,” she added.

The Cleveland, Ohio-born former model married to French actor Oliver Martinez gave birth to their son, Maceo, in 2013. She also has a six-year-old daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry, with ex-boyfriend and French Canadian model Gabriel Aubrey.
Berry also believes that “aging is natural, because it’s going to happen to all of us,” but she sometimes relies on beauty products to make her look good when she is having “off days.” She added “Some days I have dark circles under my eyes, and I’m like, ‘Where did that come from? Some days I notice, ‘Oh, my God, I aged a little bit last night.”’
In the interview on Friday, the day before Valentine’s Day, Berry told Brown that she wouldn’t mind if her husband didn’t do something special for her on Feb. 14, as long as he surprised her on “any random day in October” with a declaration of his love. She added just because the world tells you that “this is the day you’re supposed to profess your love,” it doesn’t have to be done that way.
