To Thine Own Self Be True-That’s just fancy theater talk for know yourself and what you are good at. Make a mental list of what your talents are—can you sing, dance, deliver dialogue in different accents? Just know your abilities.

Practice, Practice, Practice Find acting classes, an acting coach or workshops. Fine tune your skills and get a few basic pointers about the business so you don’t look clueless at your first audition.

“Acting is standing up naked and turning around very slowly” That’s how once actress saw it. Once you’ve gotten some classes under your belt, go out on a few auditions. Check the local paper or yellow pages for a community theater. Start slow…get used to being on stage, memorizing lines, taking stage direction. Chances are pretty good you won’t get paid or paid much, but it is a credit you can add to your resume.
