Nicki Minaj Offers to Pay College Tuition, Students Loans for Fans

Last weekend, Nicki Minaj wasn’t in the studio recording another hit. The star wasn’t rather gracing another red carpet event, but instead, she was on Twitter offering financial help to a few college students.
Her tweet read, “Make enough money to fly members of #TheKingdom out from any country in the world.”
One fan went ahead and proposed that she use her coins to pay for her tuition, which she agreed without hesitation. Afterward, other fans began to place their bids in hopes that Minaj would throw in some cash along their way for their books, tuition, and other college-related finances.
Juan Durban, a Morehouse student, was one of the lucky fans. He wrote to her, “Nicki don’t play, I’ll give you a 4.0.” On reply, Minaj promised to keep her promise if the student made it happen.
The Washington D.C. native student then sent Minaj a direct message with more information about his educational background. Juan said he didn’t have any further direct communication with Minaj afterward. He couldn’t confirm whether he had received any money, as promised.
The political science major student was overcome with emotions. He revealed that his grades were relatively good and that he earned a 3.0 GPA his fall semester.
Juan is working especially hard to have a perfect score in his finals this week. The student said that he had spent a considerable time in the library just making sure that he takes his education seriously.
Juan aspires to become a human rights lawyer and eventually a senator. He said that being given the opportunity to have a full-ride is something he doesn’t take lightly. “I’m thrilled that one of my favorite artists is taking the next step to help others further their education,” he said.
By the end of the day, Minaj had replied to at least 30 more people on Twitter and promised to host the contest again in a few months.
She concluded with the last tweet that read, “Ok you guys, it’s been fun indeed. Let’s make those payments tomorrow and then see if I have any money left,” she joked.
Since the beginning of her music career, Minaj has been a vocal advocate of education. In 2011, she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and said how music was beautiful, but also wanted to support education.
Minaj has a net worth estimated at $70 million. She will surely initiate the promised payments.
