Christopher Boykin passed away on Tuesday morning aged 45 years, with multiple sources close to the family claiming that heart attack was the cause of his death.

According to TMZ, the entertainer, musician, and reality star was hospitalized in Plano, Texas, for several days to allow doctors monitor his heart. Previously, the star had a defibrillator implanted in his chest.

Shannon, Boykin’s ex-wife reported to TMZ that medical experts tried to restore his consciousness for nearly 30 minutes, but his heart gave out and died at 4 p.m. on May 9th.

The ex-wife further shared a post on Twitter that read, “This is Shannon, Big Black’s ex-wife, and I’m heartbroken to tell you of Black’s death. He has been everything to Isis and me. We will miss him.”

Boykin’s friend, Rob Dyrdek also spoke out about his death on Instagram. He wrote a post expressing how his heart was heartbroken and couldn’t believe the reality.

Boykin and his best friend, skateboarder Rob Dyrdek, starred in their eponymous MTV reality show from 2006 to 2008. The skateboarding pro had some years back got to a disagreement with Big Black, but opened up in a March 2016 interview, revealing their reconciliation.

Big Black was also Dyrdek’s bodyguard, and the two followed their adventures, from holding an exorcism to breaking Guinness world records. They ate the most powdered doughnuts in less than 3 minutes.

In the March 2016 interview, Dyrdek said it was a strange period of the difficult time between him and Boykin after the show’s end. Since he had been a pro skateboarder for years, transitioning to mainstream fame was relatively smooth. But the idea that Big Black was working as a security for two years earlier and now on television was a much different dynamic that created a lot of tension between them.

MTV also expressed their sorrow through their spokesman. “MTV is deeply saddened to learn the news of Christopher ‘Big Black’ Boykin’s passing. He was a longtime and beloved member of the MTV family, and we will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time,” concluded the statement.

Celebrities took to social media after learning about Black’s passing. Boykin’s Fantasy Factory co-star, Chanel West Coast, tweeted her condolences. “My heart is crushed. I’ll remember all the times you made me laugh and my prayers go out to your family,” she wrote.
