Little Miss Flint Tells Trump ‘He Is Tearing Families Apart.’
BY SUSAN JOHNES
A 9-year-old girl by the name Amariyanna Copeny called out on President Donald. The kid is famously known for asking Barack Obama to help with the water emergency in Flint, Michigan during his presidency last year.
The little girl made headlines last year after writing a letter that convinced President Obama to visit her hometown. The town was undergoing a contaminated water crisis, and the kid criticized President Trump for breaking his promise to address the same issue since he took office.
Amariyanna Copeny, who goes by Mari, called out Trump during a protest in front of the White House on Thursday. Copeny met President Trump when he toured Flint. She commended Obama and criticized Trump saying that he wasn’t nice to her at all.
Copeny is also known as “Little Miss Flint” after she won a beauty pageant. She added that Trump didn’t give her a chance to ask any questions during his visit.
“On the campaign trail, Trump came up with a promise to fix Flint,” she said. “Unfortunately, this was one promise that he failed to keep, just like his campaign manifesto to make America great again.”
Flint faced a drinking water emergency. City officials confirmed in 2015 that the water supply was contaminated with lead and had poisoned local children.
In March 2017, the Environmental Protection Agency awarded Michigan $100 million to upgrade Flint’s water infrastructure, using funds Congress approved under Obama.
The promise Trump has kept, according to Copeny, is the one to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.” Trump is tearing families apart with his policies on immigration, and we kids are here to tell him, ‘no more,'” she said.
The Flint water crisis has still not fully resolved. Although the water quality has returned to acceptable levels, residents are still instructed to use bottled or filtered water until the pipes are replaced.
The 71-year-old President became the 45th and current commander of the United States. Trump’s tenure is alarming with the country facing major battles in healthcare, education, and police brutality.
Trump should be responsible for running one of the most influential nations on the planet. He should stick to his provocative rhetoric to “make America great again” which fueled his ascent to the Republican nomination.
Trump’s campaign promises aimed at changes to immigration, trade, taxes and foreign policy. However, many of his pledges are fairly conventional.
President Trump has faced hurdles in achieving his key promises and agenda. For instance, building a wall and make Mexico pay will be extremely costly.
Besides, Trump called for a temporary ban of Muslims from entering the United States. Citizens have been divided on whether banning people of an entire faith would violate the constitution.
