Mahershala Ali Just Gave Black Women One More Reason To Make Him Our #MCM

Mahershala Ali’s acting skills are obviously on point, however, we have recently found out that the Oscar-winning thespian and star of ‘Moonlight’ is also a pretty talented rapper.
Just one decade before we’d ever thought we would witness Ali winning an award for best supporting actor this past Sunday night, the Muslim A-List actor was a Bay Area rapper by the name of Prince Ali. He’d released two albums with the Hieroglyphics crews record label, Hieroglyphics Imperium.
Opening up with GQ publication just last year, the actor spoke on some of his fonder memories when he’d first became fully invested in hip-hop. He also speaks on how it affected him so much to the point that he’d wanted to become an actor as well:
“My first moment where I felt like I couldn’t live without this music [laughs] was when I heard Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick‘s ‘The Show’ on the radio station in the Bay Area and I’m twelve years old,” he said. “I sat by the radio station the whole weekend changing the dial from different radio stations to see if they would play ‘The Show.’ I felt like my head was going to explode. I love hip hop. It’s such an appendage for me. It’s something that’s always shaped my experience out in the world. I always make mixtapes for every character that I’m playing. Sonically, that character has a soundtrack.”
