A Florida teacher has now been put on probation after she’d allegedly made inappropriate remarks to some of her students. They claim that she’d compared black people to jelly beans “no one likes,” according to reports from WFTV just this past Monday, October 24th.

Lauren Ulseth, a technology education teacher of Lawton Chiles Middle School, found herself on probation for a year after the Florida Department of Education claimed that she’d called some of her students “f**king morons” and even went as far as making racist comments, WFTV reports.

According to documents obtained by the news outlet, Ulseth was accused of telling some of her eighth-grade students a series of unprofessional jokes, including, “Why is life like a bowl of jelly beans? Because no one likes the black ones,” “What do you call two Mexicans playing basketball together? Juan on Juan,” and “Do you sell hot dogs? Because you make my wiener stand.”

The legal docs, which state that Ulseth “neither admits nor denies” the allegations that are geared toward her, note that she now has to pay a $1,000 fine to the State of Florida Education Practices Commission.

Ulseth also has to reportedly enroll in a three-credit college-level education ethics course for the first six months of her designated probation. She will also be required to submit official transcripts, which show that she’d received at least a “B” grade in this required class.

The Seminole County School District claims that Ulseth was suspended from her job, without pay, and was also reported to the Florida Department of Education board after the incident had occurred. The jokes were made during the 2014-2015 school year.

Her contract was not renewed at the end of the 2015 school year.

The local news outlet notes that Ulseth can still legally teach in the state of Florida, but it is unclear if she plans to do so.
