Never Can Say Goodbye! Oprah Winfrey Returning Back To TV

The Queen of TV is finally returning back to her rightful place on the big and small screen. I knew that she would eventually, it all just takes time.

The legendary icon is going to be teaming up with Ava DuVernay of Selma for a series called Queen Sugar, a series based on the novel of the same name.

The series is planned to air on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

Winfrey is going to be the executive producer of the show as well as have her own recurring role in the series.

Production is scheduled to begin later on this year.

“I loved this book and immediately saw it as a series for OWN,” Winfrey said in a statement. “The story’s themes of reinventing your life, parenting alone, family connections and conflicts, and building new relationships are what I believe will connect our viewers to this show.”

The novel, by Natalie Baszile is one that follows the life and style of a spirited woman who soon leaves behind her upscale life in Los Angeles to claim the inheritance of her recently deceased father, which is an 800-acre sugar cane farm in Louisiana.

“From the moment I was introduced to the book, I was captivated by the idea of a modern woman wrestling with identity, family, culture and the echoes of history,” DuVernay said in a statement.  “To bring this kind of storytelling to life alongside Oprah for her network is wildly wonderful. I’m excited about what’s in store.”

The two women recently worked together on the hit film, Selma. DuVernay tweeted her thoughts on the series after the news came to surface.

“Been wanting to move like Soloway, Fincher, Soderbergh, Fukanaga, [and] McQueen. Take your time to tell a story. Hours. Freedom. Thanks, @Oprah,” she said.

This is the very first time that Winfrey is going to appear in a scripted series being shown on her very OWN TV Network. Oprah has a tremendous acting resume’ with films like Lee Daniels: The Butler and The Color Purple. I love the fact that 2015 has nothing but exciting things happening for black women and I am even more excited that Oprah Winfrey is going to be a part of them!
