We’ve been seeing a dramatic increase of diversity on television, especially regarding lead roles played by Black women.  You would think this would be a good thing, but actress Gabrielle Union suggests there might be a specific agenda behind it all.

After working with Union in his latest movie “Top Five,” comedian Chris Rock compared her onscreen to “30 Rock” star Tina Fey during an interview on The Angela Martinez Show.

“People don’t realize that Gab Union is one of the funniest people out there…she’s like ‘Tiny Fey funny,’” Rock mentioned. “With the right parts she could do something big, and turn around and play Rosa Parks.”

It’s hard not to agree with Rock.  Gabrielle Union is indeed a very talented and funny actress.  But after her experience starring in “Being Mary Jane,” Union reveals that there’s not a lot of smart comedies where black women are wanted.

On the same radio show, Union told Martinez, “They want us shucking and jivin’ and cooning, that’s where they’re most comfortable having a black woman.”
