Wave goodbye ya’ll, to one of the biggest talk show studios in America.

After 24 years of ownership and a huge bidding war that attracted buyers as far away as China, Oprah Winfrey has finally decided to bid away Harpo Studios in Chicago to Sterling Bay Cos.

While her company Harpo Inc. will most definitely still stay intact, she will just no longer have the studio after she is finished with her final two-year lease in 2016. According to, Winfrey’s spokesperson says, “We have entered into a purchasing agreement with Sterling Bay for the four-building Harpo Studios campus in Chicago’s West Loop,” the spokesperson goes on to say, “The property will be leased back to Harpo for two years and the studio will continue to produce programming for OWN.”

Harpo Studios employs over 200 people who all live in the Chicago area. This was her last remaining commercial property after she decided to head to Los Angeles three years ago to create the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

Oprah has been the number one talk show host and television Queen since as early as 1986 to 2011 and has also been named the Wealthiest African American Woman in the World by ForbesLife. She has won many awards for her talk show and she has also been dubbed as “The Queen Of All Media”.

The closing of Harpo Studios is a huge mark in African American as well as Female History. But as many would say, when one door closes another shall open and that’s the Oprah Winfrey Network!

Good Luck Oprah and thank you for all of your hard work for all of these wonderful years!
