Did you know Kelis can throw down in the kitchen?  Well, she can, and with her new holiday special on The Cooking Channel, the “Milkshake” singer is showing all naysayers that she can whip up  a mean festive feast.

In the upcoming special, Kelis, the Le Cordon Bleu graduate and professional saucer, will walk viewers through how to cook fancy and fabulous holiday meals the whole family can enjoy.  Recipes are expected to be quirky and fun, much like the singer-turned-cook.  But she still has the ability to prepare a traditional turkey.

“I’m totally down to fry a turkey, but it usually ends up being a mess,” she said.

Some of Kelis’ meals serve as a kind of homage paid to her mother because, after all, her impeccable skills originated from her mom.

“My mom had a catering business growing up, so I fell in love with cooking early on,” Kelis told Daily News.  “It’s a family affair in Rogers’ kitchen at home.”

The edgy singer’s mother is Puerto Rican,  so many of her meals are inspired from the culture her mother embraced.  One meal she will cook on the show is pernil, which is a traditional Puerto Rican dish consisting of roasted pork, pineapple-saffron turkey and chorizo stuffing with dates, carrot, and yam soufflé.

Kelis, 35, has been noticeably crazy about everything involving food lately.  She released her sixth album Food this April, rolled out her new line of sauces called Feast last year, and launched episodes of a cooking show called Saucy and Sweet with Kelis early this year.

Now, the multi-talented lady is taking her love for cuisine to a bookstore near you.  She’s working on a new cookbook due out next fall.

“I’ve been known to cook in complete silence,” said Kelis. “It’s my happy place.”

“Holiday Feast with Kelis” is scheduled to air on Dec. 7 at 8 p.m.
