Student wins 14 scholarships, but still doesn’t have enough to pay tuition

Even though her parents couldn’t afford to pay the fees for her to go to a reputable university like Michigan State, and they didn’t qualify for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Aubrey Perry was determined to go to college.
Perry’s parents couldn’t help very much because they were playing catch-up after declaring bankruptcy a few years ago when the economy changed and they lost most of their investments. That’s when Aubrey realized that she would have to win scholarships if she ever intended going to Michigan State.
She noticed that trying to win scholarships of $25,000 or more would be difficult because that’s what everyone else was trying to win. She decided to try for smaller scholarships, some offering only a few dollars and applied to over 100.
With hard work and determination, the senior high school student who loved going to the mall with her friends to see movies, got down to business and was awarded with fourteen scholarships. After she received her first scholarship of $75, she continued applying until she had 13 more with the largest being $5,000.
According to Perry, if you want to succeed and are determined to go to college through your own efforts, you should apply for every scholarship you can, no matter how small, because it all adds up in the end.
