Rihanna Tweets “F*ck you!” to the NFL…then they fire her on the spot

Rihanna has been known to get pretty live on Twitter, often putting up NSFW pics, arguing with her followers are participating in song kind of Tweef (= Twitter beef) but her latest outburst has cost her a pretty cool job.
Rihanna’s song, “Run This Town” featuring Jay Z was tabbed to be the new theme song for Thursday Night Football. The song would also feature narration from award-winning actor Don Cheadle about how that night’s opposing team are fighting to ‘run the town’.
In the wake of the news surrounding Ray Rice and the NFL, CBS decided to change the debut of the new Thursday Night Football opening, opting to address domestic violence and Ray Rice, pulling the theme.
CBS had planned on using the song this Thursday (September 18, 2014) until Rihanna tweeted:
CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, Fuck you! Y’all are sad for penalizing me for this.

The pop star’s outburst on social media did not sit will with the NFL and they have decided to move on from using Rihanna’s song at all.
The Associated Press reports:
“The network said Tuesday it was permanently editing a song featuring Rihanna’s voice out of its Thursday night NFL telecasts—after the singer issued a profane tweet about it.”
The New York Times’ Bill Carter offered some additional insight into the plans of CBS moving forward:
CBS will replace Rihanna song w theme music created internally; rest of planned opening will appear, w actor Don Cheadle the centerpiece.

A spokesperson for Rihanna did not have an immediate comment on CBS’ decision. 
CBS Sports President Sean McManus did admit that Rihanna’s own history as a victim of domestic violence was one part of the decision to cut her voice from the inaugural Thursday night football telecast but not the overriding one. “Run This Town” was to be featured in all six of the Thursday night games on CBS and eight additional game on the NFL Network.
It looks like Rihanna’s anger cost her a huge promotional opportunity and even more exposure as more than 10 million people watched the opening of the telecast last Thursday, according to Nielsen company.

I disagree on the first part of your statement. I think you have two issues. The first is them pulling her song for one night to address domestic violence. I think it was appropriate. If they hadn’t, all kinds of women would have said they didn’t give a damn. I think Rhianna of all people should know how important this is. I think your second point is valid. Rhianna’s issue was them pulling the song and not who they hired. I think she is a bit selfish for her stance on that.

Great job NFL. So sad that Rihanna does not understand their reasoning behind the decision. She got her butt beat down and left on the sidewalk by her ‘man’. One would think she’d know better. Instead she acts as if the NFL is in the wrong. She really needs to start acting like she has a little class.

I think her reaction was really inappropriate. Already reeling from the Ray Rice incident, I think the NFL didn’t want to leave anything to chance concerning this issue of domestic violence in light of the fact that Rihanna herself was a victim. Instead of expressing her disappointment in a professional manner, she took to social media to rant and vent like an inmature adolescent. So instead of the potential of further crossover impact she could have had with the song being aired during later broadcasts, she’s lost out completely. This child is going to have to learn to have some tact or else she’s not going be around for too much longer.

The NFL has a nasty record of allowing female abuse for far too long. Who cares about how many people watch this came, the important thing is the NFL has to come to grips with it’s bad record. This abuse happens in the Military, Religion, Schools, Prisons, almost everywhere you find women and men the men has some weird feeling that they have a right to force they selves on women. It has to stop and the NFL has to wipe it out of their organization.

I think you oversimplified the issue in the way you framed the question to readers. I do not believe that Rihanna was pulled ONLY because she was a victim of domestic violence. I believe her segment was cut FROM THE OPENING GAME’S BROADCAST for a combination of reasons. First, they really needed the extra time to address what was going on within the NFL in real time before one of the season’s largest audiences. Secondly, Rihanna is not an ideal victim. If you recall, after her incident she was hailed and embraced but, shortly afterwards her behavior became problematic with the release of provocative videos with confusing messages. Ultimately, she (even for a brief period) resumed interacting with her abuser while telling her supporters to to F-off pretty much if they didn’t approve. Of course, she is free to do as she wants but as an international star, her actions are followed and on a purely PR level (which is what the opening night was all about for the NFL) Rihanna would not be the best symbol for promoting awareness when she herself gives out conflicting signals on the topic. I’ve built a career in this area and can tell you that many are rejected as the public face of a campaign for such reasons and this does not in any way diminish her experience as a victim. But, when you are addressing the nation on a serious subject after a series of very public missteps, you have to be pitch perfect and Rihanna just hits some wrong notes where domestic violence is concerned.

You would think that a woman who had gotten her a$$ kicked like she did would have no objections to her song being pulled for one football game to inform the public about spousal abuse. This wasn’t permanent it was only for one gave and now she has no game. No pun intended
