Kerry Washington seems to be taking a very personal stand against viοlence. The “Scandal” star, who’s the wife of a former NFL athlete Nnamdi Asomugha and a new mom to the couple’s daughter, has teamed up with the White House to record an anti-sëxual αssault PSA titled “It’s On Us.”

The 30-second clip includes appearances from Pres. Obama, hip-hop rapper and actor Common, Randy Jackson, Vice President Joe Biden, and many other prominent entertainers. The stars can be heard saying “It’s on us” and giving reasons why there must be a communal approach to dealing with the issue of sëxual αssault. In the clip, Kerry can be heard saying it’s on us ‘to get in the way before it happens.’

Kerry has been gracing red carpets toting a purple purse to raise awareness of domestic viοlence. The deep-purple colored Prada clutch the actress has toted at this year’s Emmy’s and NAACP Image awards are symbolic of her dedication to educating people about domestic αbuse. On September 15, the actress hosted the launch of the 2014 AllState Foundation Purple Purse Program which is dedicated to educating women about domestic viοlence and financial αbuse.

One in four women will be a victim of domestic violence,” Kerry says in a PSA for the organization. “Finances are almost always a weapon of choice. Taking away access to cash, destroying credit, jeopardizing jobs; financial αbuse leaves invisible bruises that can take decades to heal.”

Kerry, who designed the chic purse she’s toting, has been sporting it to raise money for the initiative. The purses are exclusive, with only 500 being created. Some of the fashionable purses will be given to celebrities to carry on the red carpet in hopes of drawing attention to the issue, some will be sold as fundraisers, and others gifted to domestic abuse survivors.
