Janay Palmer Spat in Ray Rice’s Face Before He Punched Her

After surveillance video emerged of running back Ray Rice knocking his then fiancee unconscious in a casino elevator, the Baltimore Ravens suspended Rice indefinitely. A longer Ray Ricevideo of the elevator incident, although it still does not excuse Rice knocking his fiancee unconscious (she could have died in that elevator), it does add some context.

Video provided by TMZ only showed Rice pυnching Janay Palmer, who the running back later married, and dragging her out of the elevator.

Late last evening the Associated Press published video that showed what led up to the confrontation. Prior to being knocked out, Palmer and Rice exchanged obscenities and then Palmer appears to spιt in the face of the pro-bowler, CBS Baltimore reports.

When hotel staff notice the unconscious woman as Rice is dragging her out of the elevator, one says “She’s drunk, right?” And then, “No cops.”

The Ravens organizations responded to the incident yesterday afternoon.

“It’s something we saw for the first time today, all of us,” said Ravens Coach John Harbaugh during a short press conference on Monday. “It changed things, of course. It made things a little bit different.”

Harbaugh wouldn’t say whether he felt misled by Rice after TMZ released video yesterday.

“It’s something we saw for the first time today, all of us,” Harbaugh said. “It changed things, of course. It made things a little bit different.”

The head of the NFL said he’d not previously seen the video because it wasn’t available.

“We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said early Monday. “That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today.”

Rice was initially only suspended for two games. Had he not been suspended by the Ravens, he would’ve earned $4 million dollars this year.
