The man who gunned down a 19 year old Michigan woman testified in his defense on TuesdayWafer and admitted that he intended to fire at the teen.

Theodore Wafer says he was shoοting to protect himself when he gunned down an unarmed teen on his porch.

Wafer, 55, is charged with second degree mυrder and manslaυghter.

During his testimony, Wafer, who is expected to be the final witness, explained why he gunned down Renisha McBride when she arrived at his doorstep after a car accident.

He said he awoke to the sound of banging at his door.

“I needed to find out what was going on,” he said. “I didn’t want to cower in my house, I didn’t want to be a victim.”

Wafer said when the banging at the door grew louder, he got his gun.

“I knew I had to get my gun,” testified Wafer. “I didn’t know where this was going.”

When asked by his attorney why he opened his door, Wafer was ready with an answer.

“I thought they were going to come through,” he replied. “I was not going to cower. I didn’t want to be a victim in my own house.”

But, as Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Athina Siringas pointed out, Wafer says he was afraid but never called police.

“Sir, you didn’t call the police because you’re mad and you wanted to handle this thing yourself, isn’t that the truth?” questioned Siringas.

“No, it’s not,” Wafer replied.

Wafer also admitted on the stand that he gunned down the teen in fear but wasn’t focused on a target. When he entered the porch, he says he saw a figure and fired his gun.

Wafer maintains that he was acting in self defense.
