Lil Kim: Nicki Minaj isn’t the problem, it’s YOU

By  |  394 Comments

lil-kimDo you ever get the impression that Lil Kim doesn’t want to admit that she might be old?  She had her heyday in the nineties, but is having her haterday well into her forties.  Rather than mentoring and working with Nicki Minaj, she seems dead set and determined to compete with her and she isn’t winning the competition.

Here’s an interesting article on the issue from Luvvie at TheGrio.com:

All I want for Christmas is someone to sit Kimberly Jones down and have a tough talk with her about maturity and why it skipped her this year (and the last 5).

The lady clearly has a chip on her shoulder that is distracting her from making music that will put her back on top musically.

Beyonce and Nicki Minaj released the Flawless remix this past Saturday. I was enthused by the collaboration of two of the reigning women in music, but I was firmly underwhelmed by the end product. The song was just ok. So on Monday, when Lil’ Kim dropped her remix of the remix by appending a mediocre 30 second verse to the end of it, I wondered why she even bothered.

I wrote about how Lil Kim RSVPed to the Flawless remix party she wasn’t invited to already, and I sufficiently expressed my reasons to side-eye the self-proclaimed Queen Bee.

Lil’ Kim basically Lil’ Mama’ed the track. She showed up at the end when everyone was already clapping, wondering why she’s there. She’s the kinda person who shows up on the playground after you picked teams for dodgeball, making the game all uneven. Petty. Sit this round out, madam! Or go start your own game.

She’s the kind who tries to walk up on you while you’re playing “Solitaire” talmbout “can I join?”

No. You. Cannot.

As if that wasn’t enough, yesterday, Kimberly came out with a single called “Identity Theft,” and it was a diss record to Nicki Minaj. The cover art is a picture of Nicki on an ID card that has Kimberly’s name and stats on it. Lady, why must you do the most with the utter least? Who are her mentors? Where are her advisers? What is wrong with her, and why is she so pressed?

She’s trying to be relevant again. It seems nobody has been paying attention to her since she got out of jail a few years ago. She just had a baby, sit back and enjoy motherhood, she should have had enough saved. Enjoy your life and give the youth a chance.

Nikki came out with such disrespect and lack of acknowledgement to the leaders in the industry before her that paved the way so she could do what she is doing now. The thing about young folks today is that many of them do not have any respect for the people who were pioneers or trendsetters that made their current opportunities and success possible. Why do they brush them off as old or irrelevant? Do they think they will not get ‘old’? And where does it say because a person is not the #1 anymore even though they were the first, that they can’t remain in the game at all? Young people need to respect the path openers that give them the ability to do what they want and be on top not try to diss them as Nikki has done to both Lil Kim, Mariah Carey and probably others. I wonder what she says behind Beyonce’s back while SHE is still top HBIC? She is holding to her own success strings now with the next big thing moving her way to the top, Go Iggy! Every dog has his day as a matter of speaking, but instead of hating they need to honor and thank them for the gate opening. Nikki has done the same for others behind her and she won’t want somebody throwing her shade. Iggy is 2 steps from doing just that. And believe me there are many more coming after her so called throne .

MS. LIL KIM: ITS TIME TO COME TO REALIZATION THAT, YOU’RE GETTING “OLDER” BUT, GETTING BETTER!! ITS TIME TO LOOK AT DDING SOMETHING OTHER THEN “HIP HOP” SUGGESTION: WHY NOT TAKE YOUR SKILLS AND MENTORING YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WISH TO GO IN THE “HIP HOP” BUSINESS. SOME SURE YOU HAVE A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCES TO SHARE ON WHAT NOT DO……THAT, MIGHT LEAD TO WRONG MOVE!!!!

MIGHT, I SUGGEST, THAT, YOU CHECK OUT SHAKA KHAN…..SHE NOW DOING JAZZ
JUST SHE’S GOING TO NEXT LEVEL OF HER CAREER!!! I THINK, IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL, TO SEE HOW, YOU HAVE MOVE IN THAT DIRECTION. CHEERS!!!!

I recently read somewhere that Lil’ Kim just celebrated her 39th birthday. Since when does 39 make you old and ready for retirement? It’s clear to me that you have children writing your articles on Naturally Moi. No one asked Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle or Natalie Cole to “give it up” at age 39. These artist were just getting warm at 39. The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi are all able to enjoy Rock Star status well beyond their 30’s and 40’s, but there is a mindset in rap music that no one can be creative past the age of 30. This is a large part of why most rap music today is HORRIBLE! Record companies and program directors today choose youth over talent. Unlike other genres, rap artist can’t enjoy a career in music and grow with their fans. There is zero respect for the pioneers and the ones who help lay the foundation. Probably with the exception of Jay Z and Eminem, anyone over the age of 35 will automatically be labeled irrelevant – right at the point in life where they may have something worth rapping about.

Maybe it’s wrong for Lil’ Kim to harp on her beef with Nicki Manaj, especially with a subpar verse. But rap music nowadays is so boring and redundant, it’s good to hear that there are still sparks in this dead battery. In 2014, all rap songs sound alike, no one is being challenged creatively, and the music is dumbed down to the point where all you can rap about are strip clubs and smoking weed. There is zero life and zero excitement in rap today and I consider myself a fan of the music. To the babies out there that don’t understand the history, challenging another MC is a part of what hiphop is. Personally, I applaud Lil’ Kim for taking it back to the roots.

Lil Kim and Nickki M can actually gain more if they collaborated in areas more than music, maybe opening a business that can contribute to our young ladies,ex.: etiquette schools, beauty schools, hip hop music and dance, modeling, social circles etc…
They are both creative in their own way, be constructive in your talents and not destructive, thats a big issue within the industry..
    WHERE YOU AT SIS?;)

Lil Kim stop it and go sit down somewhere! Go figure out what you’re going to do with the rest of your life besides making yourself look desperate and pathetic. Between the non stop face lifts and reconstructions and the “feud” with Niki Minaj you’re not looking too good. You don’t need to go out like this. You’re a talented female rap pioneer. I’m sure you’re talent can be used in a way that will keep you relevant and dignified. If you don’t do it for yourself than do it for the precious baby you have that will always be known as “Lil Kim’s child”. Come on Kim, you’re a Queen, act like it.

Lil Kim is far from old! I’ll take her over Nikki Minaj any day. Today’s genre of music is just plain awful.
