Which One Of Your Favorite Celebs Converted to Muslim and practice Ramadan

muslimWe’re in the middle of a very important month to the Muslim culture and some of Hollywood’s most prominent figures are taking the time out of their hectic lives to recognize it.

I’m not referring to Independence day or National Chocolate Day…even though, both of those are special days too. I’m referring to the month long ritual in Muslim culture called, Ramadan. Ramadan is a fast done by people in the Muslim religion.

According to the Islamic bible or the Quran, the Islamic calendar recognizes it in their 9th month, which translates to the standard calendar dates beginning in June 28th at sundown and ending on July 27th. We have several familiar Hollywood names recognizing this practice as according to their Muslim beliefs.

Mara Brock Akil & Salim Akil

Writer and producer known for show’s like Girlfriends (2000-08), Moesha (1996-2001), The Game (2006-14), and Being Mary Jane (2013-14), Mara Brock Akil as well as her husband Salim are known for many of their shared titles and his director debut in Jumping the Broom (2011), are Muslim. Kansas City, MO native Mara and former mortuary businessman Salim have been married since 1999 and have two children.
