If you’re thinking that Sherri Shepherd’s leaving “The View” is the biggest news in her life this year, then you mustn’t have been an avid fan of hers.

For instance, her first ex-husband is suing her for a reconsideration of their custody agreement. Her estranged, soon to be ex-husband is suing her for divorce plus the custody of their as of yet unborn child – by a surrogate mother, no less.

Then, at a very distant third, comes the news that she will be leaving “The View” on August 7th. The reason: she was told a few months ago that her contract would not be renewed.

If you’re still thinking that that is all, then you’re in for a little surprise, the coup de grace: Shepherd was served her papers at the Essence Festival.

After co-hosting the Tom Joyner Morning Show in New York last week, Shepherd said, “It’s been crazy. I got served right before I went on stage. I had the summons and complaint in my jokes. I was getting mixed up. I didn’t know who had served me. I get them mixed up. One’s attorney is on ’Inside Edition’, the other is on ’Access Hollywood’. What’s going on? Lord, you got a big blessing for me.”

It is humor, she says, that has helped her cope with the landslide that has been coming her way.
