Police Who Gunned Down Miriam Carey in Front of Her Child Won’t Face Charges
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced Thursday that there is not enough evidence to prosecute members of the U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Capitol Police who were involved in gunning down Miriam Carey.
In October of last year Carey was fatally shοt in front of her young child after being chased by police near the U.S. Capitol and crαshing her car near the White House.
Officers say Carey rαmmed into “a well-marked, restricted White House checkpoint at 15th and E Streets NW, without authorization and without stopping,” which led to the chase.
“She drove into the circle going against the flow of traffic, almost hitting another vehicle head-on,” officials said, according to WJLA. “Carey then turned her vehicle towards the permanently-affixed black barriers that block vehicular traffic on the pedestrian walkway that leads to the steps of the U.S. Capitol.”
Carey’s family expressed their disagreement with the decision not to prosecute the officers and have already filed a $75 million dollar lawsuit.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, more than 60 people were interviewed as part of the investigation. In addition, officials used ballistic reports and surveillance video from the scene to aid in their investigation.
“After a thorough review of all the evidence, the U.S. Attorney’s Office concluded that the evidence was insufficient to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the officers who were involved in the shooting used excessive force or possessed the requisite criminal intent at the time of the events,” read a statement from the U.S Attorney’s Office.
The decision not to prosecute will not impact the Carey family’s lawsuit.
“Now that the criminal inquiry has concluded, the Carey Family will continue with its fight for Miriam’s and her minor child EF’s rights. The United States Attorney’s legal position has not changed the Carey Family’s legal position,” read a statement from Eric Sanders, the family’s attorney.

This young lady had mental issue and I do not think that this world is willing to deal with mental issues because you never know where it will end up.
I feel sad for this family but based on what this young lady was doing I do not think law enforcement knew which direction she was going.
I do think that the white couple that in the past few years that were portraying Bonnie & Clyde actually were luck to have been white when they did what they did. Based on what I read they were shooting at law enforcement and they were not gunned down. As a matter of fact they lived to tell the story and they may even one day make money off of their crime…and it is only because they are white.

Sorry but I agree with the attorney general! They did not know this woman and for all they knew, it could have been a car bomb! When they tried to stop her normally she would not stop therefore they had to do what they are paid to do, protect the President and the those in the White House at the time! Yes she was a Black woman but that does not make what she did right! People kill themselves and their babies every day here in the USA! She left them no choice! Would you people have preferred she run into something and kill herself and the baby?
