Nurse Gets Run Over Not Long After Being Offered New Job
A New York nurse passed away after being struck by a car on Monday. Saddest of all is that the woman had been offered a new job only hours earlier, reports DNAinfo New York.
According to her family, Sokhna Niang, 49, had successfully interviewed for a job after spending the evening studying for a nursing exam.
The mother was struck by a vehicle at around 9pm in the evening as she was en route to get her car so that she could head home to Staten Island.
Originally the car that struck Niang left the scene, but later returned, according to police. Niang dιed at the scene.
“She was very happy” about her new job said brother-in-law Adam Faye.
Faye added that her husband of over three decades is so upset over her deαth that he’s been unable to eat.
“He can’t even swallow anything,” he said. “He can’t even talk.”
Niang’s daughter is studying in France and was on her way to do volunteer work in Africa when she learned of her mother’s passing.
Faye says Niang was a warm hearted Muslim who cared deeply for her family and community.
“She was the cement in our community,” Faye said. “There’s not a lot of us on Staten Island and she always worked towards getting people together.”
She enjoyed caring for people, Faye recalled.
“She liked to cook for people, she liked to call people to make sure they’re OK,” Faye said. “She’s going to be sorely missed.”
The driver who fatally injured the Senegalese native passed a breathalyzer test after returning to the scene. He believed that he may’ve been the driver who hit Niang after seeing a heavy police presence on the scene.
