A 27-year-old Mississippi mother was found deαd in her parked car Thursday morning, according to WJTV News.

Courtney Cooke was found shοt to deαth at around 2AM, a couple of hours after she got off of work.

Two and a half hours earlier, she had texted her mother and wrote “I’m on my way…kiss Ivy for me.”  About a half hour later, her mother decided to text Cooke to see if she was almost home.  “Ivy’s waiting for you.  We’re leaving at 6 for Jackson.”  Cooke replied “I’m on my way momma.”  That was the last text message that Cooke’s mother ever received from her daughter.

Family and friends said that Cooke was a wonderful mother with a great spirit.  Her employer at the Handy Stop convenient store said “She’s the kind of person that you don’t come across every day.  She was special.  We are going to miss her.”

Her sister, Markitta Scott, was also distraught about Cooke’s deαth.  She had spoken to Cooke over the phone just hours before she died, and recalled that her sister was concerned about the safety of her child.

“I was like, ‘I love you’ and she was like, ‘Hold up, before you hang up…if anything ever happens to me, ya’ll make sure Ivy is taken care of.’  I didn’t know that was going to be my last talk with her,” said Scott.

Cooke’s mother told WJTV News reporters that her daughter had just moved from Carthage to Hattiesburg to make a new life for herself and her one-year-old daughter Ivy.

Although police have one person of interest, no arrests have been made as of yet.  The family is making funeral plans for next week.

Police are asking that anyone who has information about Cooke’s deαth call the Leake County Sherriff’s Department, Crimestoppers, or the Natchez Trace Parkway.
