Grandmother Finally Gets 30lb Tumor Removed From Abdomen

By  |  17 Comments

A Georgia grandmother has finally had a massive tumor removed from her abdomen that she’s been tumor.jpgsuffering with for years because she’s uninsured.

Doris Lewis, 59, had gone to several hospitals in an attempt to have the 30 pound tumor removed but was unable to find a doctor willing to remove it until finally finding a surgeon at Georgia’s Emory Hospital.

“I probably would not be alive if that tumor had stayed in me. It would have taken my life,” said Lewis, who is one of the millions of Americans who remains uninsured.

When asked by Atlanta affiliate WSB-TV how she feels now, Lewis said she feels “grateful, thankful, happy.”

Lewis was in a much more somber mood prior to receiving the surgery.

“It’s getting bigger every day,” said Lewis back in May of this year. “I can feel it on my body. My heart hurts a little bit. I didn’t know it was a tumor in there. I thought I was just gaining weight at first. Some of the guys [doctors] looked at me and said, ‘You got a tumor in there. That is so big. Bout to pop.’”

Lewis said that the tumor had wrapped around her ovaries. Family members were worried about how the tumor would impact her health as well.

“I don’t know how long that she has to be able to live with this thing in her,” said her daughter, Sarina Lewis at the time.

Georgia Republican Governor Nathan Deal has been a staunch opponent of Obamacare expansion in the state, which would provide coverage to over 600,000 uninsured Georgians.

Deal’s opponent in the upcoming governor’s election, Democrat Jason Carter, says Georgia should accept federal money as part of the ACA’s Medicaid expansion and use that money to either expand Georgia’s Medicaid program or to subsidize the health exchange market.

I am very glad that she found someone to relieve her of this massive tumor. I can only imagine how she must have suffered and not having health insurance made matters so much worse. I am extremely happy for her!!

It just goes to show that the government do not care about it’s citizens. They do all of this stuff in other countries so that it make them look big. We need to be able to take care of our poorer citizens. With this type of tumor how can she hold a job to get money to handle such an expensive operation.

Doctors do your job and do it for free and stop asking us for money to go to other countries to do the work that need to be done here.

All Georgians who believe everyone deserves medical insurance in their state, regardless of your economical status, race, and ethnicity should start voting out their congressmen, senators, mayors, and governor and choose someone who will represent all the citizens and not a select view. It’s time to stop the divisiveness and start doing the people’s business. VOTE VOTE VOTE! Make your voice heard. Get well soon Doris.

It is a BLESSING to find a resource to work with you. Many blessings to Doris and family! Many countries have taxes and free healthcare. Of course nothing is free! However, large corporations here in America block the effort to propose free healthcare for the masses. Do away with congress and the republican hell raisers, who conserve the $$$ for themselves. Obama’s plight in office was the largest inherited budget by an American president. VOTE and educate!!!!!!

I agree Deloris we must also stop being used like toilet paper by both republicans and democrats. The selected officials now send us ballot results for votes we haven’t selected. Three poll workers were laughing at a man who voted republican let me know if he were alone how could they’ve known. Until my ballot results came in the mail. It said” Republican” I gave the results to the lawyer I had campaigned for the “Freedom Party”. Several people learned that who we vote for doesn’t matter. However, supporting the people who support and serve the mayority communities they must florish to end corruption in America. Whose shoulders do we stand. Equal pay mothers sliver rights has destroyed nations. The education department should be controlled by degree educated scholars not Wall Street selected criminals.
