Milwaukee investigators used Facebook to help locate deαdbeat dads–and yes moms as child support facebook.jpgwell–who had the money to pay child support but just decided not to pay.

The sting caught father John McCroy, who is supposed to pay $100 dollars a month in child support for his 5 year old, posting selfies of himself with stacks of cash on Facebook.

Online Theoris Stewart markets himself as an R&B phenomenon and even posts pictures of himself in his new music studio, but he doesn’t pay child support.

And before you use the following stories to stereotype only black men as deαdbeat dads, keep in mind that by far the worst offender nabbed during this sting was a white father, John Rau, who bragged about all the money he was making, but had only paid $189 in three years to his son, Casey, who has leukemia.

“It’s a nightmare, I mean, your world just crashes right in front of you and you don’t even have a chance to react to it,” Casey’s mom Cvikel told WITI in Milwaukee. “They just started taking him and this and that and more testing and then we were stuck in the hospital for weeks.”

Another mother got a nose job instead of paying her child support.

What do all of these parents have in common?

“They don’t think they’re going to get caught,” says Maureen Atwell, an assistant district attorney at the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

“I think the most important thing I do in my job is to weed out people who are simply too poor to pay their child support from people who can pay their child support and choosing not to,” Atwell concluded.
