Yolanda Spivey is best-known for her wildly popular article about being an unemployed black woman in the job market.   Frustrated that she couldn’t find an opportunity, she changed her name to Bianca White, changed her profile picture and changed her voicemail to make herself sound and look like a white woman.

In the experiment, Yolanda found that her “white self” was getting lots of queries and callbacks, while the real Yolanda was getting nothing.  This led to her being interviewed by dozens of media outlets, including The Tom Joyner Morning Show.  The article was also read by over 300,000 African Americans who underestand the struggles of being black and unemployed.
