FIRSTLY WHAT IS EMPOWERMENT?
Empowerment, in a human development context, is a process that helps people gain control over their own lives. It is a process that fosters power in people for use in their own lives, their communities and in their society, by acting on issues they define as important.
Now that we have our definition out of the way, what is needed for us to achieve empowerment?
THE 5 STAGES OF EMPOWERMENT
1. I CAN DO IT? – INSPIRATION: This is the where the empowerment cycle begins and ends for most. The suggestion from the pages of an inspiring book or the motivational rhetoric of a keynote speaker can make us dream big and question our own limitations. But all the lofty ideas in the world will drift away if there are no hard decisions made to make those dreams into realities.
2. I WILL DO IT! – DECISION MAKING: Mentally, you first have to commit yourself to any inspirational idea you plan to manifest. For this stage of the empowerment process we use our ‘Will,’ to affirm our choices and determination to go ahead and make our plans.
