The 1990s singer, Russell Neal, is in police custody for murdëring his wife.   The 40-year-old was a member of the R&B group Hi-Five, who garnered a number one hit titled “I Like the Way (Kissing Game)” in 1991.

Police said that Neal had gotten into an argument with his 24-year-old wife, model/aspiring boxer Catherine Martinez. He burst into a Texas police station and told police that his wife’s lifeless body was in their apartment, and that he needed a lawyer.

Authorities found Martinez’s body with stαb wounds and blunt force trauma.  Mary Alice Valencia, a bond office worker who supposedly witnessed Neal turning himself into police, described the scene to KTRK Eyewitness News.

“I was working and I noticed across the street when the police officers pulled up,” recalled Valencia. “About four police went inside and they walked out with [Neal].  He wasn’t resisting arrest or fighting with them, or saying anything. When they brought him out in handcuffs, he was just as calm as can be and they just put him in a police car.”

Another witness, Wayne Head, was allegedly in the police station and saw the arrest as well.  According to Daily Mail, he posted pictures of Neal being detained on Facebook, along with his account of the incident.

“[Neal] walk n an say he just killed his wife she at home,” wrote Head.

Neighbors of Martinez and Neal’s were stunned by the news of the young woman’s deαth, and expressed their thoughts on the tragedy.

“It don’t matter where you at,” said Reneisha Fleming. “Stuff is going to happen clearly, but it’s shocking to have it happened so close to home.”

“Apparently a guilty conscience, a guilty conscience, a crime of passion,” expressed neighbor Keenon Shufford. “You just never know, I think he just probably lost it.”

Martinez’s mother told KTRK Eyewitness News that the family had told Martinez, who had two children, to leave Neal because he was abusive towards her.  Martinez’s sister said that police suggested her body may have been dead in her apartment for several days.

Neal is being held on $100,000 bond.
