Center Tina Charles of the WNBA New York Liberty donated $50,000 to purchase Hopey’s Heart Foundation to purchase 100 automatic external defibrillators.

While a sports star making a generous donation isn’t exactly news, the income disparity between women’s and men’s basketball means that Charles donation is half of her reported $100,000 salary. She has also raised $48,000 for the cause, according to a report in blackenterprise.com

Charles started Hopey’s Heart Foundation to honor an aunt who died of multiple organ failure last year. The foundation provides health education, CPR training and lifesaving AEDs in schools, communities and recreational centers. The league announced Friday that Charles will receive the WNBA Cares community assist award and contribute $7,500 to the foundation.
