After touring the globe and working on Broadway she landed her dream role as Whitley on A Different World.  This was the role that set her television career on fire. She went on to appear in countless TV shows like Melrose Place (1995), Touched by an Angel (1995), and HBO’s Dead Like Me (2003). She was also known to co-star in the occasional classic like School Daze (1988), and Harlem Nights (1989).

The multi-talented performer was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 10, 1962. She was the daughter of a Black man and a Cape-Verdean American woman. With such an exotic cultural background it made her easy to cast to play an array of characters.

In 1998, she married Terrence Duckett and the couple gave birth to their daughter, Imani. Imani was given to her mother with full custody, allowing visitation for Duckett.
