“The View” Plans For ‘Exciting New Direction,’ Ditches Sherri Shepherd And Jenny McCarthy

Multiple news sources, including the Daily Mail, are reporting that ABC’s “The View” has fired the show’s entire cast except Whoopi Goldberg.  The firings reportedly took place during a network meeting held late Thursday afternoon.  Some have questioned the chemistry of the show since Jenny McCarthy was added to the lineup last September.

Sherri Shepherd’s representatives issued a statement on her behalf saying, “It’s been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on.  I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie for giving me the opportunity.  I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.”

McCarthy responded to the statement with a tweet that stated, “If Sherri goes…I go too. #sisters.”  A few minutes later, she tweeted, “My View will be changing too.  As will with many hard folks.  Thanks to everyone at the show for your dedication and an amazing year.” In an even more cryptic statement, McCarthy then tweeted a picture containing her and Shepherd captioned with, “These are my Avengers and we will be back!”

McCarthy’s tweets are leading to speculation that Shepherd was indeed fired rather than it being her decision to leave the show.  Sources are reporting that the decision to let McCarthy go was “the result of a decision to move the show in a different direction creatively.”

According to TMZ:

And several sources say there’s a real chance Rosie O’Donnell will be coming back.  We’re also told producers are ‘very interested’ in Laila Ali.  We’re also told the show is interested in Ross Mathews and Jesse Palmer.”

There are also rumors circulating that executive producer Bill Geddie is being let go, but TMZ has not been able to confirm the information yet.  In a statement made by ABC, the network simply stated, “The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively.”

The view’s view is now clouded. Barbara hadn’t been gone three month’s and it’s already falling apart.

..don’t count on it whoopie is the reason there’s going to be a new line-up; which should include two males on the line up as well, even if one is gay.. and Barbara knew who was going to stay and who was going to be going before she left.. this is why she wanted whoopie as her replacement to lead the view, plus Barbara needed someone that would move the show in the direction this nation is going to stay current and whoopie is the person to do it(sherrie was the go along to get along negro female- and I didn’t like her from the start and still don’t).. plus whoopie probably has invested interest in the show as like Barbara and whoopie was groomed by barbara as her replacement, basically purchased stock(whoopie is loaded as a producer worldwide with the RIGHT connections to benefit the show) the both of them..which would secure their future. If you think Barbara is not still getting paid as long as the view airs?, So whoopie is connected to keep a pay check coming to Barbara, now is that gong to be a good thing or not? Remains to be seen.. this will be confirmed if the producer of the show is let go as well…and he should.. they need to swipe the stage clean and start anew and Rosie should NOT return to the show either-she’s a failure in everything she does..she had her chance and acted a fool on stage with hascleback….

It’s just business. People are putting to much thought into this. I don’t watch the program, however I can recognize that it has been on air for a while, it may be losing money and it simple is time to shuffle the deck.
The woman named Whoopi needs to go also.

I don’t watch the show but I am familiar with the some of the hosts. Maybe it was for the best. As far as Ms. Shepard is concerned, this is double whammy for her. First a nasty divorce and now being fired from the job. Best wishes to them all.

OH NO! I thought they were leaving upon their own accord…..;(

Happy to see McCarthy leave she was too crude for my liking. Too bad she has uprooted her child. Hope she manages to hold on to her man as she seems to have a history of being dumped (wonder why). Never was a fan of Sherrie’s…. just empathized with her as a single mother but she was “man crazy”. Wish them both well!!! Whatever the new format will be, I trust decorum will be an important factor..no one understands the discussion when everyone is talking at the same time. NO MEN PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

It is just business, what is the big deal? People are fired all the time for various reasons, apparently the viewers were going down and they had to go in a different direction. That’s life! Jenny really did not add anything to the show to be honest! Yes, Barbara probably did know but I’m sure she was not going to mess up her retirement bonus by telling it, I know I would not!

In this economy it is hard to see anyone lose their jobs, whatever the reason. All the best to both

Yes!!! Finally!!! I was a dedicated View fan ever since Star, Joy & Merridith were on the couch. I even endured the awful “Rosie” period and that was no easy task. When Jenny joined the cast I watched maybe 3-4 times before deleting it from my DVR and I have not watched it since. Maybe I can start watching again after she’s gone.

I feel bad for Sherry having marital problems and getting fired all at the same time. It has not been a banner year for her. I wish her well.

For the record Sherri left on her own because they were not able to meet the monies Sherri wanted.
I liked Sherri and I thought she was exceptionally opinionated which is what they were looking for.
Whooping on the other hand has not really expressed her opinions the way I realize she is capable of.

I wonder if McCarthy was a shield, so they could get rid of Sherri without any just cause?

I love Whoppie to death; sorry to see her go (since my days of watching “The View’ are over); talk about kicking someone when they’re down..

Sherrie should have let go with LIZ. Plus she talks over everyone. No brains!!!! Like Jennie. I want Joy back please…..

Just for the record, the reason you would see any of them doing what they do on the view (talking over everyone) as LaDonna mentioned is that they want that drama..that is what makes the ratings go up. Sherri happens to be a very bright woman that has been around for many years. I do hope the best for her for I feel she is quite capable of making it despite all the obstacles that are placed in front of her.

Sherri is a very talented and smart Lady, I’m sure she’ll continue to be successful in many other areas, as she already is, in the future. Blessings to you Sherri!

This country is expanding its wars on the African continent and still trying to find a way to bomb Iran and The View is important? Is it any wonder we’re in the toilet as a nation?

I am a fan of Sherri Shephard; she is a real person who provides insights that others might miss. I admit, when Jenny McCarthy came on board she appeared to fill the role of a dumb white blond and in my opinion did not really respect Sherri and discounted her comments, i.e. “Michael Jackson.” However, like any other review of new talk shows she seemed to get better.

My comments are genuine, nothing to gain and nothing to lose.
