A non-profit organization, Miracle Hands, Inc., has been found responsible for using District grant funds to pay for renovating a exοtic dance club.

A D.C. Superior Court jury made the decision to charge the organization and its executive director, Cornell Jones, with $329,653 in damages. Jones— a former gangster who was once featured on the BET series American Gangster— received funds from 2006 to 2008 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the District’s HIV/AIDS Administration to open a job training facility for people with HIV/AIDS, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

At last week’s trial, witnesses stated that Jones signed a letter of intent claiming that he planned to use the warehouse intended for the job training to open a nightclub, eventually named Stadium Club. District witnesses testified that Jones and his organization did not inform the District of those plans.

According to witnesses, Jones changed the location of the training facility in 2007, but did not receive a permit for the new location until the second year of the grant had nearly expired.

The job training facility was never opened.

Evidence was presented at the trial that showed Miracle Hands and Jones submitting invoices to the District for work on the warehouse that was never done. By 2009, the warehouse was leased to two business men who were in the process of planning the exοtic dance club’s opening and obtaining a liquor license.

Jones sold the warehouse for $2.7 million, and Stadium Club opened in March 2010

On Tuesday, D.C. Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan spoke on the verdict that found Miracle Hands and Jones guilty, saying that the verdict “should serve as a warning to all those who would attempt to misuse District grant funds.”

Amazing that people do not think crime against the government through. You always get caught and you will pay. You just can’t rob Uncle Sam at least not for long anymore

An exotic strip club is the LAST thing we need while trying to combat and contend with the HIV/AIDS crises. Just think about it: Some of the new cases have come about due to folks having casual/unprotected sex with infected partners. A club like this would only encourage this type of behavior. This person should not only be sentenced to pay for his actions, but should be made to spend some time in a ward full of people with full blown AIDS.
