Kerry Washington is a woman on a mission. She’s an award-winning actress starring in an award-winning series; she’s a newlywed; and now she’s a new mom. She seems to be living her prime and living it well.

One of the actress’ friends, legendary actress Diahann Carroll, revealed that this is the life Washington has always wanted. “You could smell that she wanted this whole life: the baby, the husband, the in-laws [and] the house,” Carroll, told E! News.

The 37-year-old “Scandal” star, secretly married former football player Nnamdi Asomugha in June 2013. She then gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Isabelle, on April 21. Carroll says Washington and her husband wanted to have a baby. “She wants it,” Carroll, 78, told E! at the Women In Film’s Crystal + Lucy Awards last week, where Washington was honored and made her first post-baby red carpet appearance.
