Black history is being distorted and destroyed all around us, and there is often nothing that can be done about it.  But this travesty is being brought into the national spotlight, so perhaps someone will be held accountable.

Newsone is reporting that the historic Bradshaw Cemetery in Houston, Texas has been bulldozed without the consent of the Nelloms family, who owns the cemetery.  The cemetery dates back to the 1800′s.  There are many slaves and war veterans who were denied proper burial who were buried at the cemetery.

Despite the fact that the Bradshaw Cemetery is listed on maps and in atlases, the property was bulldozed without any regard for the existing graves, and the Nelloms family is not even sure who is responsible.  News reports and online commentary from a few years ago claim that the property was in disrepair and not very well kept.  There are also several unmarked graves as well as headstones that are broken or no longer legible.   However, this is not a justification for desecrating a grave site.  The family continues to look for answers about who is responsible for the bulldozing.
