High School Student Strips at Graduation Ceremony, Denied Diploma

Quinton Murphy, a Jack Britt High School senior, will not be receiving his high school diploma for his antics during graduation. When it was time for Murphy to participate in the ceremony by walking across the stage, he walked toward the audience, pulled his robe over his head, and posed with his arms in the air. His disrobing left him wearing only leopard print briefs, socks, and shoes. The audience appeared to find the act amusing, and many broke out in laughter. Murphy was escorted to another area of the venue by police officers upon walking off the stage. However, he was not arrested. The ceremony continued forward to its completion with no further disruptions.
Cumberland County School Superintendent Frank Till, Jr. made the following statement to the Fayetteville Observer: “Our schools have worked so hard. It used to be that the audience would be disruptive at graduation. We’ve worked hard to get the audiences to respect our students. This young man chose not to show respect for his colleagues.” Till expressed his pride in the fact that students continued with the ceremony in an orderly fashion.
Till’s recommendation to Principal Denise Garison was to withhold Murphy’s diploma and also ban him from school property or attending any school events. The principal agrees with the recommendation. However, Murphy is still technically a high school graduate, and he can use transcripts to prove that he has earned a high school diploma.
The school district still has more graduation ceremonies to conduct, and they are hoping that their swift and decisive discipline for the prank will deter any other students from pulling similarly disruptive stunts. Superintendent Till warned students that there would be “long term consequences” for anyone attempting to mimic Murphy’s display.

well i know you get happy when you have been in school for fours years and you have worked hard to get this far and you want to make a statement but in this world and time we have to be careful because people make a lot of remarks about us as it is so now he has done that as well .Being the color of our skin we have to act like human beings for once because when we act a little foolish we are called names .But it should have been okay we came to this country like that all oil up and was put up for sale that way so i think the young man was saying that he was free from all and he was going to move forward with his life,It is funny how people like to hide and forget things and then say oh this was stupid or not cute ,But it was not cute when were like that with no education standing in a line with our crotches cover up and being sold .So i think the young man had a point so give him his diploma and let him be .

So what if non-blacks call us names and generalized that we are all stupid based on what one black person did. So what! We need to stop seeking their approval. They, most of them, are either barbaric or from the seed of a barbaric person. Gaining their approval means nothing. Let them talk/type. We come from royalty. We will make mistakes since they have become our teachers/idols. Once we learn who we are and stand up, we will shake our heads at them and walk away.
