Bryant Collins and the baby he rescued

Reported by Krystle Crossman

Bryant Collins spent 10 years of his life in a federal prison for felony charges of manufacturing cocaine. He stated that while he was in prison he made the decision that he needed to turn his life around so that he didn’t go out the same way that he came in. He did just that on Friday, June 13th.

Collins of Madison County, Georgia has taken up a career in auto mechanics. He was out on a call Friday morning when he noticed something on the side of the highway that didn’t belong there. He pulled over, got out of his truck, and sure enough, there was a baby crawling along the roadside. Collins picked the baby up and called emergency responders. He stayed with the child for two hours and calmed her down with some gospel music on his phone.

She was checked out by the paramedics and was fortunately found only to have superficial cuts and scrapes. It could have been much worse had it not been for Collins. She had crawled over 300 yards through the woods from her home with only a diaper and shirt on. The police immediately arrested her father, Timothy Pickens. They will most likely arrest the child’s mother at some point as well.

On this day Collins proved himself and the world that being a convicted felon does not make you a bad person. He gave up time from his day and his work in order to help a scared child through a tough time. He has been out of prison for five years and has been clean as well. He is trying very hard to make a better life for himself so that he never ends up incarcerated again. With this act of heroism, it looks like he is well on his way to redeeming himself fully.

This is why people deserve a second chance. Everyone makes mistakes and the mistakes should not be held against you forever if you want to change.

But unfortunate the world we live in is white and he lives in the USA…. Having God in your life does not stop the storms that come to build strength but it does keep your head above water while walking through your process..

An ex-con are human and make mistakes just like everyone else. I consider him a hero for helping the baby.

He is a hero! Her parents could be preparing for a funeral and facing charges for the death of this child if it wasn’t for this man.
I wonder what happened to the baby? They didn’t say if she placed with family members, put in protective custody, made a ward of the State, etc. Her parents should have to prove without a shadow of a doubt they deserve her back before she is placed back with them. How irresponsible can you be?
The way the baby is looking at him cracks me up!

My question is, why couldn’t the author NOT sensationalize this guy’s past? How about “MAN finds baby on side of road; child’s father arrested.” Or even EX-felon Mechanic, Driving to a job, finds lost baby on side of road; alerts authorities.” Yeah it’s nitpicking but representation matters.

Just Because he’s a black man that spent time in prison for selling drugs does not mean he is a bad person, now if he was a pedophile rescuing the baby, I can see it being a surprising act of kindness….. What els was he expected to do , he’s was a criminal not an animal….

I have to say I am very proud of this dude…He did some bad things and realized probably life is too short and he was better than the former life that he had.So he got his self together and that’s a beautiful thing.Wow!If it hadn’t been for him that poor child could have easily died.Yes he is a hero…now can we arrest the parents?

Congratulations for the deed that you did! God bless you ! Everybody needs a second chance! This incarceration is way out of control! Look at the statistics ! Who is being incarcerated? Don’t breathe too loudly!

The title convicted felon didn’t need to be there!!!!! Why couldn’t it have been man recuse baby along side of highway. Being in prison doesn’t make you a bad person. And even some of the most dangerous of criminals will not hurt a child. I’m glad the baby was unharmed and hope she’s place with someone who will watch over her more carefully.

I agree. Thank God this baby was saved.
I too felt, the man’s past did not need to be emphasized, nor his race.
I do not think any one in their right mind, would see a baby crawling along a highway, street or anywhere, unusual and not stop to see WHY.
There may be many reasons, why this child was so far away from home.
I would like to know where were the parents?

Can we just focus on the baby’s EPIC side-eye?? Lol

Whoever the writer is for this story is a idiot. Not a paper in Georgia focused on this man’s past. SMH, you should be fired!

Kudos to the man that found the baby. To the Village Idiot who kept referring to his past and labeling him an ex-con should be ashamed of him/herself.

That photo and what he did is priceless. I agree with you “TL” I can’t help but ask, too, why is it necessary to identify him as an ex-con. I heard the story on the TV news as well and they said nothing about the child’s parents. But they did a pretty good job of reporting the woman who had a job interview and left her children in the car. I’m just saying.

I think he has been out of prison long enough for the felony to be purge from his record. It was not necessary to include this in the report. He did a good deed and that was all needed to be said. Let the man live without bringing this up every time he does something good or bad.

Sensationalism, racism sells the story not merely reporting an act of human kindness.

If it were a white man who found the baby, would we be bombarded with his past? This site is not one to uplift the people it serves. Just a ghetto a$$ site for black news. The ” journalists” can barely spell or put a proper paragraph together, their fonts have been out of order for the past two weeks and doesn’t seem to be getting fixed anytime soon. But they are great at censorship. As if they are doing someone a favor. Unsubscribed
