Black Man Works to Raise $5M For an All Boys Academy For Black Boys

By  |
Dr Umar Johnson raises 5 million dollars to purchase St Pauls College to build the Frederick Douglas and Marcus Garvey RBG International Leadership Academy. www.naturallymoi.com

Dr. Umar Johnson

Reported by April V. Taylor

Dr. Umar Johnson has long been considered an expert on how the American educational system uses learning disabilities to label black children, particularly black boys.  He holds a Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree and is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist.  He has also worked as a trainer, teaching educators and mental health care staff on a variety of psycho-educational topics, and as a child therapist.  He is the author of Psycho-Academic Holocaust: The Special Education & ADHD War Against Black Boys.

As recently reported by the Atlanta BlackStar, Dr. Johnson is now trying to take his work and message to the next level by purchasing St. Paul’s College, a HBCU located in Lawrenceville, Virginia.  If he is able to raise the necessary $5 million by August 21st, he is hoping to convert the college into a boarding school for African American men.  Dr. Johnson believes the residential educational facility will be a valuable tool in helping Black men overcome the educational racism that is prevalent in schools across America.

He hopes to rename the school the Frederick Douglass and Marcus Garvey RBG International Leadership Academy for Black boys.  The curriculum would include training students based on a global business model that will enable them to pursue careers of “self-employment and entrepreneurship.”  Dr. Johnson is aiming to provide young men with real world experiences, so that they will be more prepared when entering the labor market.  In a statement on BlackNews.com, Dr. Johnson states that the he believes “Our children have to be taught how to make a living anywhere in this world regardless of the circumstances of the political economy in which they live.  The FDMG Academy will teach our children to be masters of agricultural/agronomical science, economic/financial science, political/military science, nutritional/dietary science, family/community science and African centered spiritual/cosmological science.”

Ubfortunately, it seems the government has gotten wind of this and is planning on purchasing this property to house illegal immigrant children. They do not want our kids to prosper.

Forget about what “they” want! That’s nothing new! It’s what WE want that makes all of the difference. The question is, “Are we willing to pay the high and sacrificial price for the success of our Black youth?”

Are we talking about the same program. The article stated that the children are immigrants in the link; this article states the school will be for Black Boys?

Not trying to shoot his plan down, I think he has the right idea, but there s no way, that they will allow him to open his school because of the strong history of White Supremacy here in America. It will never happen when the government is so busy targeting our Black Boys for incarceration. He is clearly going against their system of modern slavery. I have one word for him, underground. Since he is an advocate of History, I’m sure he will reevaluate his plan and make changes accordingly based on what has worked in the past. Don’t give u p Dr. Umar, we need you.

Brother Umar will raise the 5 million dollars just like Brother Tariq Nasheed have did on the Hidden Colors programs let us look at the good the Brothers are doing and less on the negative of certain ones who is creating foolish havoc of self hating violence like the recent Black Biker incident in Virginia and giving outsiders an excuse to shut us down This is our responsibility to support our own agendas and forget the Whites who don’t want to see us free or be ahead of them but must do so by every and any means necessary the hell with those politicians that just about our hard earn money and to exploit us as usual and we must support and follow Brothers like Umar Johnson Tariq Nasheed and even Brother Jamal Bryant rather we agree or disagree with his sermons but we should not judge or hate the Brother who speaks the Truth

Right on, Arnett (Black Power fist raised)! I plan to donate to the school and have purchased a ticket to the local screening of Hidden Colors 3. WE have to support these brothers. If ever Black person would just send Brother Umar $10, he would have the funds to start the school.

We can all help because if we each gave a little we can reach the goal of $5 million. I received a text yesterday stating that the property will be going back up for auction on June 25th and Doctor Umar will need our help sooner.

If we all gave a minimum of $10.00 we could have the $5 million with no problem. Look around you and see what you can do without so that you can contribute to this project. Maybe you can skip the movies this weekend, don’t eat out this weekend, don’t shop this weekend and there are many other things that we don’t need but can wait until later.

We may not get this opportunity again and now we have no excuses.

If we as people of African descent would stop spending our money on those things that does not matter, and on those things which we do no need such as car rims, flashy jewelry, weaves, fake nails, etc., and things such as spending our money on fake, pagan holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July, etc., we can create and generate some massive money to help Dr. Umar to open his school and create phenomenal change in our children and their futures. Also, all of the money that we as a people pour feverishly into these churches, making these pastors filthy rich when those churches are not trying to make us rich, then we can move some massive mountains, and we can do it if we want to. Our kids deserve that much.

Every rich black athlete, every super rich black performer, every rich black business man or woman should be ashamed of yourselves for not helping this man build his school. Dr Dre gave 32 million dollars to USC a school for rich white kids. Oprah built a school in Africa where is she now with her billions. Why not build a school for the most oppressed and abused boys, teenagers, and men on this planet and especially in this USA. Shame on you for not helping your on people. How did white people get a middle class? After WW I I the government gave loans to white veterans to buy home and refused those loan for Black veterans. Then they gave white veterans money to go to college and once again denied every black veteran. That’s called a systemic hand up, and a foot on the black communities throat. White people help each other and oppress and imprison us and especially our men. If we don’t help ourselves no one will. Every black should donate something to our future.

Anything can be done with prayer and fasting. All of the people with bad mouths need to just shut up. If you can’t support and help find a way to get the job done shut your negative mouth. White folks are not God. This is what’s wrong with our people today. Instead of us focusing on God, we’re looking at what the devil will try to do. Where is your FAITH? GOD BLESS US IN ALL OF OUR ENDAVORS.

You may find the contact information to make your donations to Dr.Umar Johnson’s project on the following site: http://www.drumarjohnson.com/ .

Won’t hurt us to send Dr.Johnson a donation of $10, $20, or more. He’s declared his noble intentions. My only concern is that it does not appear that Dr.Johnson has create his non-profit. And if donations are made otherwise, they are made to him as a private individual. Anyway, it appears as if Dr. Johnson will be using the money for a school, regardless.

Dr. Johnson has a P.O. Box address to receive donations in Philadelphia, PA. Somebody needs to educate him about being more transparent when soliciting donations from the public.

i think this is such a worthy cause..but in all fairness..every rich athlete or entertainer does not know about this man’s vision. do they know about the state of young black men today..yes..but God gave this vision to Brother Umar..and everyone is not going to just bow down and shell out moeny for someone else s dream..I would love to see a school such as this..but..we must consider the and if and buts..red tape and all it takes to do something of this magnitude……..His intentions may be good..but who is he..how is convincing the AA public that he would be a good stewart with the funds people would be entrusting him with..I wish him well and will consider sending a donation for this effort and vision.

I think this has been tried before, and it never happened because of legal complications.

In May he sent an anonymous FB inbix to our group inquiring abiut thw property. He did this after we acquired the film from the Board of Directors of the college. We share it on FB for others to see. After seeing it he start a campaign the next day. We reached out to him to collaborate yet he never returned our call.

    • avatar

@Leigh Smith–Even though you’re obviously a racist Troll beyond reasoning, Dr. Umar Johnson is opening the school to counteract the deliberate mis-education of black boys and girls in America, much of which you could’ve garnered from the article. And whites have plenty ‘for boys only’ schools on the primary, secondary, and collegiate level, they just don’t call them that and use different criteria to ensure that said schools remain ‘for whites only,’ so cut the bullshit, you racist peon.

Either donate or don’t. Bryan and Leigh, we live in a separatist society and children of color get the least. Look up an old definition of racist the etymology means proficient or proud of one’s race. Racism is different, meaning to practice, think or act in a way that denigrates others because you think you are better. There are all white institutions all over this country and communities that want to keep them that way. Integration is not always the answer, especially when it continues to undermine black unity, wealth and progress.

Naturally Moi & April V. Taylor Thank you for this!!! And Thank You Brother Umar For Such a vision that is So desperately needed Now!!! Regardless of the thoughts of this being a separatists or racists school, We as Black Folks or Melanin Dominant People Need to educate OurSelves in these days and times. Very Specifically Black Men sharing knowledge and information as a Black Man to Younger Black Men on how to prepare and see 7 to 10 generations down the line, Father Nature-FatherHood!!! Sorry White Women can NOT teach this in Public schools or any institution. As A Black Man, This is Our Responsibility, Our Responsibility within Our Community to teach and educate Our Children. This school is for the young men and we need acquire another for the young ladies. We have dealt with HisStory Long enough, Now We have to reeducate and teach OurStory!!!

$5 Million shouldn’t be that big of a task for Our Community but it is because of the various levels of self-hate and lack of self-esteem we have over the years of physical AND PSYCHOLOGICAL Enslavement that we have and continue to endure.

Example since it is Graduation time, time of New Beginnings: What is a Students (Or Your) view of the world? In the vision of the world does Greenland look very large? So this is a Marcator Projection where the Northern Hemisphere is exaggerated. Many never get to see an equal area map or Peters Projection Map (petersmap.com) where north and south of the equator are equal. Many educated in this system are tainted and we can change this by assuming Our Responsibility Teaching Ourselves!!!

Last note! I know this is the system we are in, but as Thinkers can We think about another way to exchange value or worth and Not Trade Dead Slave Holders like Ben Franklin?

    Thank You,

I have been watching my State Department of Education and Secondary Education (Missouri) take over the Urban Public Schools because they “failed” the “state accreditation” over the past many years. They replaced the “duly elected school board” with an “appointed school board” that answers only to DESE. Of the four Urban Schools in the St. Louis Metro Area, one has been completely dissolved and merged with a second Urban School (which was also taken over a couple of years later) and the second school district has also lost accreditation and has been dissolved and turned into a “Cooperative School District” (which has not been defined as what they mean by “Cooperative” and how they are going to be operating, who will manage it, who will they be answerable to and where the funding will come from). There is no additional information. My fear is that they will have a “charter-type” organization running it and will not be answerable to the people in that Community! Another school district was taken over by the State with the Appointed Board some three years ago and has not been “accredited” yet. A new State law allows the students of the “failing school district” to transfer to another neighboring “accredited school district.” The receiving school district will charge its tuition and transportation costs to the sending school district. This was done to the now-defunct school district and it literally decimated its annual budget in less than one school year!! That is why it is closed! The fourth school district is much larger than the other three. It was taken over by the State six years ago and still hasn’t received its accreditation! In my opinion, the STATE HAS FAILED THE STUDENTS!! I applaud Dr. Johnson with his innovative plans to educate the Black males of our Society! I do agree that there is EDUCATIONAL RACISM because one of the “receiving schools” in the transfer program was allowed to not invite the transfer students back for the next school year. They are a Suburban, nearly ALL-WHITE School DISTRICT in a neighboring county! I will try, with all my might to support him and his innovative program that will turn around the MANY DECADES and maybe even a CENTURY-LONG INJUSTICE! May you be successful and walk in Peace!!!

Our precious Afrikan children are under constant mental, physical, psychological and spiritual attack by this evil white supremacist system. The white supremacist system is unleashing it’s deadly attacks on our boys/men as they know we are the Mothers and Fathers of humanity and the time for their wicked rule is drawing to a close. Ase!!

I will continue to follow your lead as a community activist who has been serving the Afrikan community for over 27 years. You inspire me to continue on this difficult yet rewarding journey until we achieve our total mental, cultural and physical liberation from this evil empire.

    We will win!

    Forward ever!

    Thandiwe
