Recently a few members of the 1990s hit African-American comedy sitcom, “A Different World” got together once again for a taping of Oprah Winfrey’s show “Where Are They Now?”

Being their first reunion in 20 years, the cast members, including Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Darryl M. Bell, Cree Summer, Dawnn Lewis, and Sinbad, really enjoyed being together again for the taping of the show.

Some of the credit for bringing the cast back together must go to Debbie Allen, an executive producer on the original show. She thanked Oprah for giving them the chance to get back together again on her Facebook page and she hopes that this reunion will mean that a reboot of the show is in the near future.

In a recent interview with the Grio, Allen said that she had been trying to bring back the show with the help of some very influential people. She added that Bill Cosby was one of those people and he really wanted to see that happen.

The difficulty in bringing the show back, according to Allen, is that it can get very confusing when you are trying to mix old script writers of the show with new ones. She added that at one time she thought it might happen, but then it came to a standstill.

Cree Summer, who played Freddie Brooks in the show, was also excited about the reunion and tweeted several behind the scenes pictures of herself and other cast members on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). She added that she had been interviewed by Oprah and it had been an amazing experience.

However, Lisa Bonet, Charnele Brown and Jada Pinkett Smith, who is currently vacationing in Hawaii, were missing from the reunion.

Many fans of the original show would love to see a return of the popular sitcom, but they’ll have to wait and see what turns up after the airing of Oprah’s show.

Allen, however, remains hopeful of a reboot. “Right now we’re kinda at a stand still, so we’re going to re-investigate it again because it’s such a good idea,” she posted on her Facebook page.

I used to love this show until they started making the character of Whitley acting like a bumbling idiot.

Loved that show. Especially when Dwayne and Whitley tied the knot.

It was great to see Black folks on TV attending college, getting married and just being positive. Get sick of drug sales, drive by, drop out, jail life and just hurting one another. Time for “CHANGE”.

Hi I think it is FANtastic to bring A Different World back to life….absolutely Splendid idea!!!!! Ms. Allen please go ahead and bring this project into fruition. I am glad that Mr. Cosby is adamant about bringing it back to life. Hopefully Oprah can lend some financial support as well! Lets not fret about new writers intertwining with old writers…the Blend of the two sources of creative minds will keep the show fresh, crisp and NEW! I believe the viewing public once an old show revitalized, the concept and foundation will stem from the old show but the gamut of Newness that can be sprouted from a surge of new young actors and writers will be magnificent! So the return of the old cast as parents to undergrads that live out and display the characteristics old fans are familiar with is great! Whitley, Galeisa, Jada Pinkett, Lisa Bonet………I can’t wait!!!!!! Another avenue of cash flow “Woman Moving Millions” I believe Fruitville Station received funding from one such endowed woman. Good luck!

Leave it alone. People need to stop trying to recapture past glory with these shows. We’re in different times. Do something new.
