A mother is outraged after her daughter, a second grader at a Las Vegas elementary school, Shay_Joneswas forced to urinαte in front of her classmates while the school was on lock-down, according to published reports.

Fox reports that Shay Jones said her daughter, a student at Ruth Fyfe Elementary School, was told to urinαte inside of a trash can in her classroom while other students were present and taunting her.

The school insists that children and teachers are not allowed to leave the classroom during a lockdown, even for bathroom breaks. The teacher was merely following instructions put in place by the school district, Fox reported.

Jones is not having it.

“You do not, I repeat, do not put a child on a nasty school trash can with a hard napkin, cover the corner with a partition, put on music so the other students can’t hear. You just don’t do that,” Jones said.

“During a lock-down, staff and students are told not to leave their work or classrooms for safety reasons. The district will look into this situation to determine if additional staff training is needed to prepare for future situations,” the school district stated in response.

The school district stated that the elementary school is an “outdoor school” with no way to safely get to a bathroom during a lockdown.

“A lock-down situation can last a few minutes or several hours, depending on the situation. When a lock-down is instituted, it is normal for teachers and staff to be unaware of how long the school or building will remain in lock-down status. In this situation, the teacher accommodated this student to avoid having the student urinαte on his or herself, and create a possible health issue,” the district stated.

But Jones says the school is ignoring her.

“I contacted the school. I got nothing. Not even an apology,” Jones said.

Jones told reporters that her daughter is trαumatized after the incident and fears for her child’s mental health should other students continue to make fun of her.

It is lockdown. Put the trash can behind the desk, use it and move on. The mother should understand the seriousness of the situation.

I’d like to know what this mother would have done had she been in the teacher’s place. Allow the child to go to the restroom anyway at a time of, perhaps, impending danger?

This teacher did her job. She made the smart and better choice to protect the safety and welfare of the children in her care.

I agree with you. Protecting all the children. Could have been a person with a gun or a natural disaster

This person would be one of the first to bitch if the teacher had taken the child into an unsafe situation. Tell me mother of the child what would you have done. The lockdown is in place to protect the babies. Think about it MOM.

It’s so very unfortunate this mom allowed emotions to take control rather than common sense!

We as a people are known for reacting loudly, forcefully, with out knowing all the facts! Then when presented with the facts ,were unable to graciously accept them.

I guess it’s another of those black things, like just keeping it real!

I understand that the mother was upset about her daughter having to urinate in a trash can, but in the context of a lockdown there was no other alternative. The article doesn’t give us much information other than the mother’s version. Was there a gunman in the school? If the teacher had opened the locked classroom to assist the mother’s daughter to the bathroom, she ran the risk of endangering the other students, her life and the little girl’s life. Now, if the teacher had that trashcan out where everyone could see the child handling her business, then she needs to be disciplined. There is a way to handle this situation tactfully so that the child is not humiliated. LAWDIE! LIFE’s scenarios can wear you down! These kids nowadays are undergoing issues that generations in the 1970s and 1980s didn’t have to worry about…

This message is to the writer: Your heading is as though the child was in lockdown (jail). Was this heading to be more demening for the child being Black. Nevada is very bias as it relates to being negative toward Blacks. Yes I know first-hand as an educator.
