First Lady Michelle Obama Digs in Her Heels Over School Lunches

Among Republicans on Capitol Hill, it’s acceptable to rank ketchup as a vegetable so long as michelle-obama-pink-top-the ketchup lobby ponies up with campaign donations. First Lady Michelle Obama, however, has been working to make school lunches healthier and she doesn’t want to see Republicans undo all of her hard work.

Although Mrs. Obama rarely becomes involved in political fιghts, she has planned an event on Tuesday which she hopes will prevent Republicans from rolling back health standards for school lunch meals.

Sam Kass, director of Mrs. Obama’s Let’s Move initiative to combat childhood obesity, says allowing schools to opt out of the program would take school nutrition in the wrong direction. Kass says Mrs. Obama’s event will highlight schools that have successfully implemented the health standards.

“She wants to have a conversation about what is really happening out in the country,” as opposed to the picture that’s being painted on Capitol Hill, Kass said. “These standards are working.”

But some are reporting that the standards are having the opposite effect in some of America’s school cafeterias. Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Ala, who wrote a bill to overhaul Mrs. Obama’s lunch standards, says he’s responding directly to school administrators who are calling for the changes.

“School officials here are part of the issue,” said ABC White House correspondent Jonathan Karl. “The people that administer the school lunch programs say the kids don’t eat the food, and it’s costing too much, as one told The Washington Post.”

I agree with the First Lady, never in my lifetime have I seen so many obese children in the neighborhood! Mothers don’t cook no more, it is all about going thru the drive thru, so the only place they can get a healthy meal is at school. There are kids growing up today that have no idea what a vegetable is. Are women today just lazy as hell or what? I cooked seven days a week, worked 8-10 hours a day, kept the house clean, washed clothes and the women of today can’t seem to do any of this for they are saying they are too tired, if you are not doing anything but working a job how can you be too tired? I guess the Bible was right on this one, each generation will become weaker! Have you ladies ever heard of a crock pot? Guess not!
