It looks like Viola Davis is having a very accomplished year.

On May 23rd, the Academy Award nominated actress received an honorary doctorate degree from Julliard, the school from which she is a class of 1993 graduate. She and seven other honorees accepted their awards at the school’s 109th commencement.

Davis has enjoyed an extremely dynamic career in the arts, which began as early as 1996. She has been active on Broadway, in television, and on film. According to The Julliard Journal, The Help actress’ career truly began on stage, when she played Tonya in King Hedley II. Besides theater, Davis has been featured in 23 films and over 40 television episodes.

She has
won a Tony, a Drama Desk award and two Screen Actors Guild awards. Davis has been nominated for a BAFTA award, an NAACP Image Award, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe.

The talented actress is also starring in the upcoming ABC drama produced by Shonda Rhimes, How to Get Away With Murder. Davis will be playing the lead role as a law professor and criminal defense attorney who finds herself wrapped up in a murder plot. The drama is slated to premier this fall.

Davis will also be reuniting with her The Help co-star Octavia Spencer later this year in the James Brown biopic, Get On Up. Davis plays the Godfather of Soul’sbiological mother, who was just 16 when she gave birth to Brown, and abandoned him soon after. Get On Up is also starring Chadwick Boseman (from 42) and Jill Scott.
