These Triplet Scholars Will Amaze You
Don’t talk to the Joneses of Washington, D.C. about the black male achievement gap because it doesn’t exist in their household. And good luck keeping up with these Joneses as well.
Malik, Ahmad and Khalil Jones are triplets who attend Georgetown Day School . Each has earned major achievements in both academics and athletics, according to report by The Grio.
The three brothers post a combined 3.7 grade point average in high school. They are preparing to choose from among the nation’s finest universities for their next steps forward.
Each says the sibling rivalry in their household – and the discipline and work ethic instilled by their parents – has helped fuel their fire to succeed.
“You can’t let the other person be better than you, because you don’t want to be the worst one right?” Khalil jokingly told NBC Washington. “So, it’s kind of like we’re always pushing each other.”
Malik said, “If one of them can accomplish something, then without a doubt, I can definitely do it, too.”
The triplets say they are considering Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania as their final choices for college.
The Jones triplets offer a strong counterpoint to recent comments critical of urban and minority achievement by the likes to Wisconsin Republican Congressman and former vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan.
‘We have this tailspin of culture, in our inner cities in particular, of men not working and just generations of men not even thinking about working or learning the value and the culture of work,’ Ryan said on Bill Bennett’s ‘Morning in America’ radio show.
President Barack Obama’s legacy campaign of “My Brother’s Keeper” launched on Feb. 27 to improve the potential success for young men of color who have fallen behind cultural standards, sparked debate about the black male achievement gap.
Clearly, these Joneses aren’t too worried about such things.

I want Paul Ryan, to put as much effort and energy in to complimenting these Triplet as he did in criticizing, black men. The Republican only look for bad things,or things that are not even bad, just because white do not get the same horrible treatment, regardless to what they do.

I WANNA ‘BIG UP’ THESE BROTHERS FOR THEIR COMBINED AND INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENTS. COMING OUTTA THE ‘DC AREA’ WHICH IS KINDA ROUGH, THESE 3 BROTHERS ARE STICKING TO THEIR GAME PLAN. SOMETIMES IN FAMILIES OF SIBLINGS, YOU MAY HAVE 1 OR 2 KIDS IN A HOUSEHOLD OF A BIG FAMILY MAKE IT. THESE YOUNG MEN ARE EXAMPLES TO PARENTS, TEENAGERS AND COMMUNITY THAT IF YOU STUDY HARD THERE ARE REWARDS. ALSO, TO, THE PARENTS GET A ‘BIG UP’. THE PARENTS HAVE GOT TO BE PROUD OF THEIR CHILDREN. I’M NOT CLIMBING INTO THEIR POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS, AND START PASSING JUDGEMENT.. I’M STATING THAT THEIR ARE A LOT OF YOUNG PEOPLE WHO THINK GOING TO SCHOOL IS NOT FOR THEM. IT’S NOT EASY TO STUDY HARD, PASS YOUR CLASSES, THEN HOPE TO GET INTO AN ACCREDITED COLLEGE. SO ‘BIG UP’ THESE YOUNG LADS, GO DO YA THING. TO THE PARENTS…Y’ALL AIN’T GOTTA WORRY ABOUT TUTITION FOR 1,2,OR 3 OF YOUR BABIES. GOD BLESS THESE ‘TOMMORROW LEADERS’.

You have to remember that Paul Ryan is still in shock because he can’t believe that with all of the money that the Coke Brothers and their other billionaire friends put up during the Presidential race, that a black man named Barack Obama beat the crap out of he and Mitt Romney (the great white hope) and won his 2nd (not 1st) term by a landslide. So take what Ryan has to say and file it where it belongs (in the trash).

Our kids are amazing, inspite of all the negative media. There are many high achieves in our communities, but only violent offenders are on the news. Why? Let us accentuate the positive everywhere we go. Tell it like it is.

Please EVERYONE be aware, that these exceptional triplets attend an EXCEPTIONAL SCHOOL!
The tuition for Georgetown Day School is over $30,000.00 per year. Many children would excel in this type of academic environment filled with all types of enrichment. We all need to recognize that excellence is usually carefully crafted and does not occur by accident. Please ensure that you are all fostering excellence in your home for your talented child. If they are smart or gifted, please research independent schools as early as you can because public and parochial schools for the most part are EXTREMELY deficient. I struggle with my husband over this subject with regard to our very, very smart and uniquely gifted child. It saddens me to admit that he just doesn’t get it! You need a plan of action that you both have to be on board with for your smart children of color. So, I am on this journey alone with my child…
Word to the wise Brothers and Sisters because this is how you provide your child with an equal playing field in a distorted world!

@sistagirl I have two children attending this exceptional school. You’re correct that tuition is 30,000 however what you may nor be aware of is they do not accept children on their ability to pay. My son ans daughter attend this school on a scholarship provided by GDS that includes payment for any after school extracurricular activities. There are also the black student fund and opportunities scholarship program that provides up to 12,000 in scholarship money even if your children receive the full financial rode for parents to use for transportation school supplies and uniforms. In the district of Columbia fortunately your child can go to any private school in the DMV it does take time effort and commitment to apply for the different schools and scholarships as well as financial aid. Make one thing for certain GDS especially makes a point to have a diverse group of children meaning socio-economic, religious, ethnic, and family structure(I.e, homosexual, transgender, blended, extended family structures)

This is how you raise children. Shocked to see some of the posts especailly ones saying the young men are trying to act “white”. So, you are saying only young white men are smart…so sad.
I applaud the parents…PARENTS (mom and dad) in the house. No baby-mama, no dad with a record or in jail…PARENTS!
This is how you do it, this is what we have lost as a people.

@Meghann, I guess I’m an exception to your stereotype. I am a so called “babymama” and my children’s father is incarcerated. As I mentioned to sistagirl my kids attend this school, and whenbrhey took their IQ tests which is apart if the independent schoolafmissions process, they ranked 90% higher than children their age. My mistakes nor their fathers mistakes have no baring on my ability to successfully raise my children. My mother and father did it the “proper way” they were each other’s first college educated, career holding adults. Yet they were abusive, neglectful parents who eventually abandoned me and my five sisters leaving us vulnerable to the rape and physical abuse who suffered through in the foster care system. There exist no right time to become a parent only people who are capable of the sacrifice or those who are not. Please stop placing generalizations on people because it isn’t possible for everyone to fit neatly in your boxes and no one should be quantified by their mistakes. All that matters is you learn grow and evolve as a person.
