If “Scandal” has everyone from First Lady Michelle Obama to viewers in remote dusty villages in Africa watching the political thriller via torrent sites, then one sharp-dressing, level-headed Pope Gladiator surely had a lot to do with its popularity.

Columbus Short’s character, Harrison Wright, has been one of the crucial cogs that have made Olivia Pope & Associates the best in the “cleaning” business and was also one of the reasons millions sat glued to their TV sets for every single episode.

Scandal” has just completed season 3 and, sadly, it is official: Columbus Short has been fired.

In a statement, released via his publicist, Short said:

“At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today. I would like to first thank [creator] Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Thank you GLADIATORS, who have supported me throughout my entire career and of course to ABC and Shondaland for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the Scandal series. I have enjoyed every single minute of it. Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful.”

The actor has had a tumultuous couple of weeks after his wife, Tanee, accused him of threatening to kill her following a fight. She claimed that Short pinned her down, choked her and then threatened to stab her and kill himself if she didn’t admit to having affairs. She has now filed for divorce and has a restraining order against her husband.

ABC is said to have passed on Short’s option to return for season 4 because of the mess.
