Celebrity men who were inappropriately touched as children

Females are generally the face of child abuse cases. But recently within the last decade, more young boys have been speaking up about their own trauma. While some don’t seem fazed by it, others are traumatized and have claimed that it has negatively impacted their lives.
TheRoot.com recently revealed six celebrity men who were s-xually abused as children. They also detailed how the incidents impacted the men’s lives.
Here they are:
- R. Kelly- Over the years, R. Kelly himself had abuse allegations brought up against him by various under-aged girls. But when he was only 10 years old, he claims that a young woman began to abuse him and did so for several years. He also claimed that he grew up in a house full of women who would walk around half-naked in front of him. He stated in his book, Soulacoaster that the experience made him feel “ashamed.”
- Chris Brown- During an interview with The Guardian, a grinning Chris Brown revealed that he was abused at 8 years old by a girl that was 14-15 years old. Although many were shocked by this news, Chris Brown seemed unfazed stating that the incident was “normal activities that typically occur in the country.”
- Don Lemon- During a televised interview surrounding the case of Pastor Eddie Long, (an Atlanta based pastor accused of abusing a few men in his mega-church), Don Lemon admitted that he was abused as a child. He wrote about the incident in his 2011 memoir Transparent.
- Charlamagne Tha God- Hip Hop shock jock Charlamagne Tha God often joke on air about his abuse. He once tweeted, “I really think getting head (mοlested) at age 8 by a 20 something chick with a jheri curl really f*&6ed me up.” He downplays the abuse on his radio program, but talks about it often.
- Rahsaan Patterson- Soulful R&B singer Rahsaan Patterson told The Root in 2012 that he was abused beginning at the age of 6. He was traumatized by the event because as he stated it was “violent and there was bullying attached to it.”
- Tyler Perry- If you don’t know, now you know that movie producer, writer extraordinaire Tyler Perry was abused by both men and women in his neighborhood. He has stated publicly the incidents with men have left him sexually confused.

Some facts, from the National Center for Victims of Crime:
– 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse;
– Self-report studies show that 20% of adult females and 5-10% of adult males
recall a childhood sexual assault or sexual abuse incident;
– During a one-year period in the U.S., 16% of youth ages 14 to 17 had been
sexually victimized;
– Over the course of their lifetime, 28% of U.S. youth ages 14 to 17 had been
sexually victimized;
– Children are most vulnerable to CSA between the ages of 7 and 13.
Parents often think that their sons are not vulnerable but the fact is, because boys spend more time unsupervised than girls do, boys are often victims of child sexual abuse. A secondary problem is that many people do not think that it is abuse when a boy is the target of sexual advances by an older woman.
We can and should do better.
