Teen Charged With Dumping Baby in Garbage

A St. Louis teenager was officially charged on Tuesday after being accused of giving birth to a baby whichJordan-Smith was later found in a garbage can.

Lucretia Jordan-Smith, 18, was charged with abandonment of a corpse after paramedics found her infant daughter lifeless on Thanksgiving morning. The baby had already passed away at the time of delivery, according to court records.

The baby was in a garbage bin wrapped in plastic grocery bags at the time she was discovered by paramedics, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Paramedics said they responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call from a woman who said her friend had just given birth and put the baby in the trash bin.

After being confronted by police, Jordan-Smith admitted that she had the baby and afterward wrapped the child in bags and dumped her in the garbage.

Jordan-Smith had been away at college but was home for the holiday at the time she gave birth. She told police that she didn’t even know she was pregnant at the time she gave birth to her child that weighed in at only 3 pounds, 7 ounces.

Since the family did not claim the baby, police named her Raguel, which stands for the angel of justice. They also had a funeral for the infant.

Jordan-Smith faces up to four years in jail if convicted. Her bail was set at $10,000.
