Nene Leake’s Criminal Past Comes Back To Haunt Her

NeNe Leakes has a criminal past that has been kept secret during her rise to fame. According to the reality queen, she had some trouble with the law when she was younger on one occasion.  News reports have publically revealed that Linnethia Johnson, who is now NeNe Leakes, has a record that includes more than one offense.

NeNe has a diverse resume that includes being a stripper, housewife, reality star, and contestant on “Dancing with the Stars.” Her personality has elevated her name in the entertainment arena leaving her past behind her until now. According to NeNe’s book that was released in 2009 “Never Make the Same Mistake Twice”, she went into detail admitting to an incident that involved her friend shoplifting while NeNe was in her twenties. She obviously excluded some of her past that included several arrests that included felonies and a misdemeanor.  Star magazine explained that those charges were for “theft of services” from a phone company.  She ended up agreeing to a plea that determined her guilty of the alleged charges.  NeNe did not do any jail time for that incident; but, she was placed on probation for two years, and she also had to pay $2,650 in fees.

Even after that occurrence, she was arrested several times for violating her probation. Her past has certainly been challenging, but that happened a long time ago. She is now on another level in her life that has brought her fame and money. I hope she takes this time to talk to young girls about choices, and how hers may not have been the best; but anyone can change their trajectory by refocusing their efforts on positive choices.

“I’m very proud that there’s a ton of African American women who really look up to me and I’m very proud of that. I’m very proud to represent the strong black woman,” said NeNe about being a role model.
