BET’s ‘Being Mary Jane’ Series Will Be Back For Second Season
By Stephanie Allen-Gobert
She’s back! When Gabrielle Union was interviewed back in December, she had the confidence that the show she stars in, ‘Being Mary Jane’ would be back for a second season. And Dwayne Wade’s finance’ was totally correct.
The TV show itself did in fact pull in really strong numbers for BET, averaging just shy of 3 million viewers for each original airing and very respectable 1.3 rating among 18 to 49 year olds.
Fans of the show said it felt less like a season finale and more like a series finale the way plotlines were cleaned up. Some found it dull and wanted more of a cliffhanger, “Scandal style.”
BET’s hour long drama, ‘Being Mary Jane’ was a huge hit and the day after the show finished with 3.2 million views in its season finale, and was immediately renewed.
Recent press releases last week did not state how many episodes but the show will return for production in Atlanta this spring.
Union, acted in the first eight episodes, taped in the spring of 2013, much of it at the EUE Screen Gems. The show was originally called Single Black Female. The series centers on successful talk show host named Mary Jane Paul (played by Union), her professional and private family life, while searching for “Mr. Right.”(www.BET.com)
Some of Gabrielle Union’s other notable roles include her performance in the film Bring It On, Bad Boys II, Deliver Us from Eva, and Cadillac Records. She is currently dating Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade. The actress is nine years Wade’s senior, but the age difference does not matter and the two seem to be making things work through all the issues and drama that seems to arise,’ Being Mary Jane’( Gabrielle Union).

the best of the handful of quality shows on BET; it should return,as the writing is excellent & Gabrielle brings it home…the adultery aspect may be important to some, but now that’s done…it was a hook to many…now they can move on to other topics…with the Akil’s behind the show, it can only ascend…

I love Being Mary Jane…very good writing, real life topics. I have no complaints we spend too much time critiquing others hard work and talent while sitting home doing nothing. Social media is an outlet for people to express themselves but it has become way to judgmental especially when most if not all can relate to Mary Jane more than they want to admit. Entertainment is for your enjoyment not for you to take it personal. We have so many things we can focus on, take a stand or rally about but those things don’t get ourattention….make a difference not a negative comment…peace!

I really enjoyed Being Mary Jane, because it was about things that really go on in most people’s life at some point. I looked forward to watching Being Mary Jane every Tuesday, I just wish it was still on and I look forward to the new season. Hats off to the writers Gabielle and the rest of the cast for a job well done.
